The Sevens is an awesome event

I love watching the rugby sevens. Just finished watching Argentina-England…what a great format!
I had a chance to see them live many years ago in Hong Kong and that was my first exposure to premier rugby. I got spoiled to say the least.

The thread title made no sense to me. The content makes very little. Rugby is a football like game…that I know (yea, I know Rugby is probably the predecessor, and that football is actually soccer.) I grew up in the mid West and that’s how we roll.

Jamison,

Take your head out of your ass son.

There is a great big world out there…check it out.

Good luck.

Sevens is a great sport, particularly as it can be enjoyed with little to no knowledge of the far more complex 15 man game. The format of having a whole tournament complete in the same place and same day is great for spectators too. I think it’s being put forward as a test sport for the Olympics either in 2012 or 2016.

It used to be an olympic sport, and I believe the United States is actually the reigning gold medal team.

That’s very interesting…did not know that. I’d love to see it back in the Olympics.

Jamison, this just in…

the world is round. The midwest may be flat, but the rest of the world isn’t

I went down to petco park on Sunday to meet up with a buddy of mine from college to watch the final day live.

I had never even seen rugby before but had a great time. That said, it was certainly pretty confusing for a 1st timer to watch and figure out.

I also don’t see any issue with what Jamison (sp?) said.

The title of the thread IS confusing, and would have made more sense with “rugby” somewhere in there.

Also, Rugby is NOT a huge sport in the U.S. so I would think rugby fans would be better suited to encourage people to “go out and check it out”…rather than just “take your head out of your ass”…

Makes me a bit sad what internet anonymity does to how we all interact.

I understood the title. Sevens is a game, touch is another game… and both are loosely based on elements of rugby. I saw that the parts of the tournament were broadcast on TV yesterday but when I switched the channel, all I got were the Celtics. :frowning:

It’s a great game to play too.

I love rugby and consider myself to have a strong understanding of the game. I find that rugby is a game most americans like to watch live and usually enjoy the first time they watch it. They usually don’t understand a lot of the intricate rules, but they love tackling, hitting, passing, and scoring. 7s is an even easier game to understand and is a great stepping stone to full 15s. I wish ESPN would/could show rugby union (but not rugby league, don’t even get me started on that bastardized and crapified version of a beautiful game) instead of some of the crap they show.
