Does anyone here have experience with The Rift gravel race? I’m interested, but accommodations have booked quickly, so I’m wondering if the expense of trying to rent an Air-b-n-b is worth it. Also, I think The Rift mt bike race is in its first year, but I would be curious to hear how Rift gravel people might think this event will go. I’ve never done a stage race before.
I did the Rift a couple of years ago and it was an absolutely amazing event. Well worth the travel hassles. We stayed in Hella which is about 30 minutes from the event start/finish but it was fairly easy to drive there race morning.
Well organized event, beautiful (and punishing) course, and super interesting country. I highly recommend it!
I appreciate the feedback. I’ll try to find a space outside of the recommended accommodations–with an eye toward Hella. Thanks!
I have done it also stayed in Hella. Arhus Cottages which were reasonable and clean. We got there, stayed 1 night in Hella, did the race and then drove the entire circle for about a week and stayed our last night in Hella. I rode all over the island
The first maybe 2/3 of the race is incredible. You will then quickly learn why they invented the Lauf fork as the washboard is worse than I have seen anywhere else. Biggest tires possible will help.
I rode 38 which back then wasn’t tiny but I did puncture (snake bite) at the highest elevation point and fought sealing it on and off for an hour. It cost me top 5 that day. I was there the year Stetina won. And won about every other race he entered.
I appreciate the advice!
