So I get my new DeSoto Forza trishorts, matched up with a Carrera jersey. Hanging out today in the lovely sun, probably 90 minutes in the aero position.
Guess what happens when you forget to put sunscreen at the top of your butt crack? You know - that little sliver of skin where the jersey just doesn’t quite meet the shorts sometimes? Especially if you’re blond, blue eyed and live in a northern climate?
Oh I hear you. After duathlon nationals last year I had wings on my back from being in aero. I guess my shoulders spread a little farther out of the suit than where I applied sunblock.
The dreaded ‘Cheshire Cat Smile’ sunburn. I got my first one at LP a few years ago.
Could still see the residual outline (slightly less pasty than the rest of me) of it literally years later.
Needless to say, I pretty much never forget to put sunblock there now.
I know the pain. I used a Kiwami Konami yesterday in the heat of the Florida race, and it was amazingly comfortable, but also felt cool in those humid steamy pastures. Not sure I’ve ever had a more comfortable suit! Thanks to Andre!!!
You mean that the line on my back from China 70.3 2009 will still be on my back longer than just this year? I was hoping after this year it would be gone, but if you had your tan line for multiple years guess this one is going to last for awhile…
Some folks can pull the leg up and others just take down the suit. I haven’t done an IM yet but I have done 2 HIM in my one piece and didn’t pee in either rave. But if needed to I could pretty fast. I actually practice pulling the suit down and pulling it back up. I garantee you if can be done in no time with 5 min. worth of practice.

OH JEEBUS ARE THOSE BLISTERS?!
Well that wasn’t the purpose of the post but since you asked for it here is the close up link of the blisters, just a warning before you open it, pretty nasty. And yes I did have sunscreen on but obviously 113 degree temps don’t care what sunscreen you have on. Those tan lines are gone on the shoulders and no scars from the blisters. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MzqklMoCyBs/Se_LYGF7hLI/AAAAAAAAAJg/JB2ILEzOm-A/s1600-h/DSC03181.jpg
OK, I’m on board w/one piece suits, however, how do you pee?
I do NOT evacuate on the bike or in the water.
Every IM(x5) I have done I pee before the race and again at the first port-a-potty on the run. In general a single port-a-potty stop will keep me the entire race.
At my first IM(IMFL06) I thought I had GI distress and stopped also at mile 13-16 of the run.
Where I am rare that I can make 7-ish hours without a bathroom stop I don’t know.
Mine were when I moved from living at 10K feet into the amazon. I only forgot the cream once, but I had big, raised (3/4"?) , liquid filled blisters on my shoulders for a few weeks.
it wasn’t so great, but I was 10 at the time and so it wasn’t too much of a problem. The biggest thing was finding anything to wear for the next 2 weeks that wouldn’t tear all my skin off.
