Rory carded an 8 over 79, which started with a quad bogey on the first hole - ouch.
In looking at the leaderboard, another interesting note was David Duval’s 19 over 90. He actually birdied the first 2 holes and was 2 under through 4. Then he proceeded take an 8, a 7 and even a 13 at one point. Wow.
Hard to bet against Koepka at this point.
Love the setting this year - beautiful course, rolling hills, and not brown like most Opens.
and the R&A with the ultimate needle - upon further review, Duval actually took a 14 on that hole to card a 91. ouch! He seems to be taking it relatively well though. I don’t think he thought he could win, but I imagine if he didn’t think he could make the cut he wouldn’t have shown up.
I just learned that Rory came back today with a 65 and just missed the cut by 1 stroke. Great on him, but ouch again.
Great leader board, as you’d expect at a major. I’m glad to see Spieth playing so well. That would be a great story for him to win and end his drought. Especially at the Open, where he last won in 2017.
And of course, Koepka is right there too.
Should be a great weekend. I love the Open because I can wake up watch. Good stuff.
Saturday was pretty amazing - Lowery played unbelievable…while he has a 4 shot lead tomorrow will be tough if the weather gets bad. I hope he wins, it would crazy for an Irish man to win this event - this year.
Yeah, Lowry had a real dream day. I’m pulling for him now for sure. They did a good job explaining that his game was not in a good place at coming into this week. That, and his being Irish, what a great story.
It was great to see Westwood tied for the lead once again in a major, but painful to watch his inevitable fade. He did shoot a 70, so he didn’t fall apart–just couldn’t keep up.
They’re going off early tomorrow due to the expected weather.
