The Official, All Encompassing, Lionel Sanders Thread

How does he know his sweat rate if he peed between the weighings?

@talbotcox when you post workouts (for anyone, not just Lionel) can you include the rest? 8x8 way more interesting when I know whether it’s 1 min or 5 mins in between

On the bike I assumed 8. Didn’t he say it was a 4hr ride?

In threshold reps, the typical work to rest ratio would be more like 2:1 I think, rather than 1:1. Also I suspect the reps were significantly below threshold (in the 330s, so closer to Lionel’s 70.3 intensity), and if I’m right, this would ordinarily make the standard rest even shorter. #coachkajet

yeah that. and he didn’t seem to factor in the environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.)

I almost always do 5:1 or 4:1 work to rest ratios on my threshold intervals. Am I an outlier?

I don’t know, but you’re not closer to 1:1 are you!

Why did Lionel consult chatgpt for nutrition advice and not his coach Mikel? He is being coached by Mikal right?

He’s missed his calling as a fisherman.

The only positive I have to say about this video is that it’s good he stopped calling himself an idiot or worse 1928372 times in 15min.

ATTENTION LIONEL FANS!!!

Fresh off the press - the plan to get Lionel to win Kona this year is revealed!

Its not hydration, its not nutrition, its not low carbs, its not a vegan diet, its not raw liver
Its not more sleep, its not napping, its not having 3 more children
Its not 50 hours of base training, its not 500W intervals, its not reverse periodization
Its not 20 hours in the pool, its not a swim camp in SF, its not having some unknown podcaster ex-swimmer 3rd tier pro triathlete teach you swim technique
Its not racing Long on mt. Lemon, its not racing Trevor on the track, its not racing Ari … well, whatever that Ari thing was
Its not coaching himself, its not hiring a coach, its not hiring a coach then firing them then hiring them again, its not hiring an advisor then firing them then hiring them as a coach (or the other way around, I get confused)
It is not whoop, its not a blood test every 2 weeks, its not continuous glucose monitoring, its not $1,000 tri suit, its not red light, its not any other snakeoil pros are shilling

This year Lionel is taking a scientific approach. And to this end he had taken a surprising and dramatic move that shook the AI global market to its core (you might have noticed the NASDAQ volatility spike). Our most favorite triathlete dumped Chatgpt and moved to Claude!

He and tasked the droid but a single question: how do I win Kona?

Good ol’ Claudey went to town, employing the latest nvidia chips, burning enough electricity to light a small town for a leap year and raising global temperature by another 1c, with a massive deep search and machine-learning algorithm.

And the robot had cracked it!

Evidence 1: Ben Kanute
Ben’s storied career, successfully moving from short to middle and long distance, may not be at a Kona-winning caliber, but the overwhelming number of slowtwitch posts about Lionel’s swimming was statistically significant enough to start with to this front-pack swimmer.

Evidence 2: Jelle Geens
Still not quite up there at Kona-winning level, but Jelle is a 2 times 70.3 worlds champion among his other accomplishments. His beautiful running style is smooth as butter, never reminding anyone of a limping dog. Surely there’s something the cyborg can learn from him.

The pattern was still murky, but starting to appear.

Evidence 3: Kristian Blummenfelt
To cement the plan, the cybertron turned to the person rightfully considered the GOAT by so many. Dominating every distance, achieving every imaginable goal (except for getting laid).

Oh no! sidetracked
And there it was, the pattern clear, the evidence undisputed. The automaton was just about to lay out the plan for victory.
But chance is a cruel mistress, and in an unfortunate accident, Erin asked Claude an unrelated question, unbeknownst to her the monumental task it was laboring under.

And thus began the year 2026.

Forget about that loser, Lionel yelled at the helpless bot, I did so much drugs before I found the sport, what would a rapper know about that?

Claude took over another data center. Re-energized and motivated, it set out to complete the job. It would hold back no more, pull out all the stops, no holds barred.

The smoking gun: Patrick Lange
Forget the fluff, ruthlessly cut right down to business, the cybernetic brain told itself.
Who better to analyze than 3 times Kona champion?

Conclusion: The path to victory
Claude took a (virtual) deep breath of satisfaction, his sole regret was he could not have a cigarette.
Forget curing cancer, forget global warming, forget quantum teleportation. It may just be a collection of bits and bytes, but it had solved the biggest mystery the universe had ever presented - how to get Lionel to win Kona.

And so ladies and gentlemen, behold: Lionel Sanders Kona 2026 winning picutre.

Did i completely miss something or has he picked up another run injury ? :grimacing:

There was mention of a calf strain after IM Texas, and then possibly something shin-related. I keep up with Lionel news as much as possible, even occasionally asking on here and Pro Tri News if anyone has heard anything. He apparently did a Hawaii training camp. No video that I’m aware of, one photo of him running out there. Last video and Instagram posts that I saw he was running on a treadmill in some kind of harness to give some added support/lessen impact.

According to his latest YouTube he had a stress reaction in his shin, then issue with glute.

Sounds like he’s threading the needle.. Like everyone I’d love to see him be competitive again, seems like he keeps hitting rough patches.

he was also in Austria with the Canyon team, together with Kat and Hayden

He’s still ā€˜competitive’, it’s just that the top world-class standard of what it takes to be ā€˜competitive’ has raised several levels since his top Kona performance years. He hasn’t really gotten worse, it’s just a lot of new contenders came in who have raised the bar to really high levels.

That info about Austria and Canyon is completely new to me. Any insider info on what the training was like, how he felt (injury, etc.) Anything you’re aware of would be interesting to me. THANKS!

I have no further details, sorry. just saw some pictures on social media
