Have to remember he doesn’t travel well. Going halfway around the world doesn’t set him up for success.

One thing that I have noticed with a lot of these YouTube pro’s is that they certainly don’t seem to live the broke Triathlete life that Pro’s back in my day did. There is no flying in cattle class on budget airlines with cardboard boxes and certainly no sleeping on homestay couches or on the floors of willing local hosts. I marvel at the huge houses they seem to be renting and the entourage that they have travelling with them.
It is the same with a few of the cycling YouTubers and various athletes from other sports.They are living like Rock Stars by comparison.

I thought he was making a lot of money from the videos, but I guess he really invested and gambled on a good placing to make some $$. I think he can do better than Kona, but he will struggle to crack the top ten in Taupo. Do we know who (pros) is racing Indian Wells?
Assuming this is accurate (I am no expert on the topic), YT is not a big source of income at these click levels.

I expect that he’s not getting a ton of money directly from youtube, but he likely has deals with his sponsors related to how much screen time their products get. If not directly tied to the # of views, then the videos still build his “brand” and make him more valuable to sponsor.

You have to remember you are looking at the 1% top athletes in Triathlon. If the youtube is getting views and they are performing, they are receiving significantly more sponsor value than others (more than just the prize money.)
Talbot has also said that he receives all of the youtube revenue from Lionel’s channel.

Yeah I suppose, but there’s whole bunch of experts on there and it goes on and on forever. It’s just a wee bit tedious. Lionel needs to Cameron Wurf it.

On a serious note, the lead in to Taupo could really use some Talbot/Lionel content/magic.

That’s so true, I’ve watched 1 video so far about the build up and only saw that because I subscribe to Kyle smith, really Ironman should be paying Lionel and Talbot to come to races just to generate views in the lead up.

Talbot doesn’t need Lionel to make quality race week videos as he has shown us before with other athletes in Hawaii.
