You think this is somehow tied to Riasova being a doper? (A former one.)
I wasn’t hinting at that at all, but I can definitely see this pattern in her results…the same people she beats easily in World Cups seem unbeatable in WTCS
I suggest this is because she hasn’t got the swim + bike in a WTCS field. Second chase pack standard. But good enough in a WC dynamic without (enough) serious swim/bikers present.
Yeah, does make sense.
Was there an A race she skipped to do this one? The passive aggressive hate is really astonishing in this thread, but you haven’t won the gold medal there yet…. (-;
One of her biggest issues last time around was that she couldn’t get starts because of her ranking. Coming back and starting at 0 points made it hard with our women to be in that top tier that gets automatic starts. These little races will insure that she at least doest have to fight that battle anymore, and when those A races roll around she can be sure to get her starts.
As for the race, she raced with the leaders, although still drifting off the back on the bike a lot. Good to see her 2nd/3rd in line on the swim, but of course will be completely different in a full field. And accounting for just coming off a running surgery injury, 18 minute 5k is not horrible. She basically has to up here game on all 3 sports still, but at least has gotten an early entries.

For sure, she is a pro triathlete, so making money is a top priority. And it must have been pretty good to get her across the world, obviously in less than stellar shape so soon after her surgery..Like Ali going to Patagonia Man, swimming like a slow age grouper. Still making a check on the back of his best in the world olympic status, even in retirement…Any comment on the actual race?
the issue is he cant even get that right it was a C race ( ie continental cup …)
Dang - I’d resolved not to indulge your ‘no peripheral vision’ “all encompassing” thread. See you on the ITU thread idc.
PatagonMan looked like an amazing race, and not just because it rewarded the excellent bike-runners.
When she does get to A races, she tends to be BOP
When she does get to A races, she tends to be BOP
Yes on her comeback where she had to miss many A races, she was BOP. But she also seemed to be moving up as time went on, getting around 15th a couple times in those full races? I mean did you all just think she was going to be fighting for podiums after being out of the sport completely for 7 years? Was there no grace given to what an uphill battle it would be? And she is still on that hill climbing, just from a much higher starting spot than the last time around. I think that she is no where near what her potential fitness can be, only question when she gets to that point, is it enough to challenge for top 10’s in those A races. She seems to have the attitude and mindset to follow it through, so lets take this as the starting point and critique from that, not from when she won her gold medal…

Detailed profile and career statistics of Gwen Jorgensen triathlon athletes.
she has her ups and downs ie like a 50 50 chance, being fop or bop but a 12th place at the grand final is not BOP and neither is a 4th place at Yokohama , before her injury she was about 12 th in the world ranking and around 15th to 25 th would be a fair assessment where was in the last 18 month , 4 top 15 results at world series level in last 18 month is solid. yes, they were often not the most competitive races but still.
“Starting” at her age , yes it inspires us masters athletes, but better to move on to the retirement leagues of ITU racers.. long course. Getting those injuries in draft legal & crit racing are costly recovery times for her

Of course, but both those things are behind her now and she seems fine to move forward. Yes she could have gone to long course racing, but I think we all know by now that is not her cup of tea. She never has or does seem to have any interest in it, she is a true ITU racer at her core. And I would imagine she will also make more money staying put, she has good sponsors, is getting some results now, and if her long term plan to make the team is realized, she will do fine with $$.
And I’m pretty good at handicapping these things, and right now in this time in the US, she is in a solid position to get the 3rd spot, probably one she actually earns for the US too with her ranking.
Ya I watched that race and it was pretty astonishing how unfinished that city is. Seemed like every building in the background still had some construction going on and the lack of actual people there made it seem like something other worldly..And was that the smallest field ever?? No doubt some good $$ incentives for some to just show up, and certainly some great points to go into the bank for next year..
What is the actual qualification process for the U.S. LA28 Triathlon Team? Do we know what this is yet?
Is 2026 the year Jorgensen decides that after all she’ll have a stab at middle distance and get fitted with/for a TT bike? Who is her bike sponsor? Might that actually ‘up’ her SC biking?
