Any watching this show? It’s *almost *not funny, it’s so true. Kinda like Dilbert.
I can especially relate to all the stupid motivational, morale-building ideas portrayed. My company is big on that stuff. Employee Appreciation Week just ended- my supervisor had to write a “personal letter” to his employees thanking us for what a good job we do all year. And Tuesday was a dress down day- they sent a company-wide e-mail saying that people could wear blue jeans to work with a company t-shirt. Woo-hoo! (Only be sure to clear it with your supervisor first.) And they gave all of us some plastic clapper gizmo, so that when we do a good job, we can “give ourselves a hand” when we do a good job and nobody else notices.
The normal, everyday means of motivation at my company is- I kid you not- a Gold Star to reward a job well done. I got one for that work on that problem site I was telling you about. Mrs. Vitus wouldn’t put it on the fridge, though.
Love it. I am pleasantly shocked at how good the American version is – I think it is every bit as good as the British version. I thought for sure they would ruin it with someone like Drew Carey and a laugh track. But it is very true to form. It reminds me of Curb Your Enthusiasm in the sense that it walks that very fine line between uncomfortable/embarrassing situations and comedy. I love that.
I watched the first one and loved it. Unfortunately, they’ve slotted it against the Amazing Race. As someone who has not entered the Tivo era, I’m counting on re-runs.
By the way, the plastic clapper is classic. I’m still laughing, so give yourself a hand, you comedian.
It’s an almost exact copy, even the plots, of a British BBC show. I agree that the British version is better. But they’re both still very good.
This is not new. Such classic comedies as “Sanford and Son” were direct copies of BBC comedies. “Steptoe and Son” was the original British version about a Cockney father/son junk business.
Even “All in the Family” was originally modelled after a British TV series.
Fortunately the Yanks never tried to copy “On the Buses”. That would have been painful.
