-Set a goal number of swims OR yards (meters) for the month OR an event and goal time OR any combination of the above.
-Show up to practice (which means, chime in on the thread every once and awhile and tell us how you’re doing. Check out this thread (http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...reply;so=ASC;mh=25;) if you want to see how it works). I post all of my workouts - not mandatory - but it’s nice to see what everyone’s doing for training, get ideas for sets, etc.
-Log your distance total for the day on our Google spreadsheet.

Welcome to the fun, I’ll see you all at morning practice
I was all excited when I saw your reply, I thought “ha! I caught a fishie!” but I guess not. Good luck with the military training, and I’ll see you in December.
I’m in - thanks, this is a great motivator. Plus, it will help me count my laps. Just got done swimming for 1.5 hours and have no idea what I did (could not even keep track of where I was in the set, much less what lap I was on…)
In practice last night we were doing all those drills, if you saw that workout - the coach kept asking me, how many strokes did you take? On the fly, for instance, we were trying to keep it <10 strokes/25, same for breaststroke… it took me a bit to get in the habit of counting them.

USE THE CLOCK!
Only thing worse than looking at the clock is counting strokes! It’s always the same! DPS drill? 20 strokes. EX f/s? 20 strokes. Strong 50s? 20 strokes!!!
I’m back this month. Target = 50,000, with a whisper number of 60,000 (those in finance know what than means).
I was trying!!! (and I’ve been swimming laps for the past 33 years, so I do know how to use the clock…) However, we had a 4x300 set after the w/u (which took me forever, I think I swam way too much), and I could not figure out when a 300 was over and my brain couldn’t do the math to figure it out pace clock wise. One of those mornings - Fridays are hard for professors too, not just students.
Oh well, my next race is in June so a few missed sets aren’t going to kill me, and I’m confident I still got 4,000scy in.
I gotta ask…you do that much swimming(6250 a day/ 6 days a week) and those are your times? I guess I just figured you were faster with all the swimming posts you make.
I haven’t touched the water in 2 months so I have a lofty goal of one practice a week or…16,000 yards(probably won’t make though)
that’s nothing, for some reason my group has a sudden fetish for broken 300’s and 400’s. But they can’t just do it normally, they have to come up with every combination possible.
Last week we did 5x500 broken. This was one of the 500s:
125 swim, 10" rest
4x25 IM on 30"
3x50 on 1:00 descending
25 sprint
The rest were just as convoluted. Try remembering all of that AND what lap you’re on.
I need this as motivation, I’m in total training free fall right now… I finished my final race of the season, had an injury (sesamoiditis) stopped training and have been eating EVERYTHING! Still need to keep running mileage on the low end and could stand to improve my swimming anyway. I think a realistic goal is around 20,000 meters for the month but as I have mostly been swimming for time not distance I really have no idea. So I’d like to give it a go, a little virtual motivation to get my ass in gear let me know when the google app is up and ready!

I’ll go safe and say 500 free < 5:30.
Dude lets save the penis or vulva (equal opportunity) matches to general threads. This should be one of those scrub-a-dub make you feel good threads not a pissing contest.
I want to say Thanks to everyone who does these group motivation threads. It is what makes Slowtwitch the killer resource it is.
Just making an observation from a swimming perspective and asking a question… as well as participating in the November swim challenge thread. No need to get your panties in a bunch, or sorry, boxer briefs(equal opportunity).

Oooh that hurt…
my best 500 time is a 5:52. My best 1650 time is a 19:45 (and the last 500 of that was a 5:55. The longer the race the better I seem to do). I suck at sprint free, like a 1:07. My 200 free is a 2:16. My 200 IM was a 2:40 the last time I swam it but I hadn’t been training any strokes. 2 weeks ago, 7:24 for a 600 yd pool tri swim.
In the swimming world? not so good. But I’m usually first out of the water in a tri
The November sheet is up. Everyone who used a lane last month is there again, this month. If you didn’t use your lane last month and I already deleted you, just re-add your name to the next open lane.
Remember to put in your goal the line titled “Goal Distance” in the white area, not in the green highlighted area; that part will auto-calculate.
Great month of swimming in October everyone, especially tc and Luna Bananas!
I hope to be back in the pool a bit more in November, after I get this pesky marathon out of the way on Sunday. Still working out of town, tho…
