I bought one of the new 2016 SuperSix EVO HiMod bikes on Thursday. I broke it in today on a 95 mile ride with 10,000 feet of climbing. It’s a climber, a descender and an all-around fast, fun bike to ride. I’ll say up front that the chain stays are plenty wide and Cannondale finally got the message about wide wheels and tires. My 303s with 25mm tires sit in there with lots of room to spare.
I got the bike from an LBS who was at the Ogden, Utah launch event about 10 days ago. They snagged a 56cm and a 58cm both Dura Ace builds…I took the 56cm. I had to “settle” for the ENVE seat post since the SAVE seat post is not yet available. It came spec’ed with the Mavic Ksyrium wheels which I’ll turn around and sell with my used SuperSix. The Cannondale Hollowgram cranks and 8-arm spider rings are insane light and very stiff and responsive. The bike just goes when you step on the gas…like a caged animal wanting to lunge forward. The ride is smooth, quick and uninterrupted - I hit a small section of road that was bumpy and very uneven - the SuperSix almost glided over it. Jump out of the saddle to throw down some quick effort on a hill and you feel like you are dancing. On the flats, in the group, in the drops, this thing just blazes ahead. The added compliance in the fork and the seat stays is immediately noticeable when comparing it to the older SuperSix models.
The look is clean, thin, straight lines. None of this curvy, wavy, bulbous tubes and crap…it looks like a real bike, not a balloon toy made at a kid’s party.
The only knock is the cockpit…wow, it is crap on a stick. Cheap ass alloy handlebars that really aren’t race-ready (sorta, kinda compact but not so much) and the stem is a cheapo alloy Cannondale stem. Makes a tremendously fast and fun race bike kinda look funny up front.
A great bike and so much fun to ride. Thanks for reading. Hit me up with any questions. I’m so glad I didn’t buy a Tarmac.
