In March of 1984 the ‘‘Wind Blown’’ was lost, in a severe storm, with all four men aboard. They were almost home to Montauk and nobody know exactly what happened. No bodies and very little debris was ever found.
I love Montauk, I know a lot about the Hamptons, and when I was younger I hung around with some of the commercial fishermen at the Jersey Shore in the bars that sold cheap beer and shots. And I would have been about the same age as these guys, so I’m the perfect reader for this story but that’s not the whole story.

This is really the story of the survivors. It’s also about the growth of the Hamptons, and the wealthy week-enders who come for three months. It’s the complicated story of Mike, the captain, Mary, his wife, and their three sons. And the First Mate, who grew up in a very wealthy Central Park West, NYC family. And one of the young deckhands, who made more money playing hooky for a week offshore tile fishing than his teacher made all year.

It’s an amazing story of loss. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I couldn’t put it down and I finished it in three days!

Thanks I’ll add it to my reading list. I grew up about 45-50 minutes from Montauk. Plus I always enjoy reading about ships and historical events.

Sounds very interesting. I will have to put it on my want to read list.

I finished it last night and today I’m in mourning for them. For the four young guys who died and for the wife, girlfriends, son’s and parents who were never the same.

This is because the author did such a great job of bringing them all back to life for me. These people who I never heard of before, who died 35 years ago. Montauk is a very special place. I want to go back, maybe just to volunteer at next year’s tri.
