The game exists, sure the show will deviate on details, but what happened is what happened in the beginning of the second game and results in pretty highly rated plot. So it seems odd to think that this is some crazy thing that would kill the story.
Not having any familiarity with the game, what happened last night was a huge WTF moment for me.
Reading a couple of reviews today that explained how it followed the game’s storyline made it make more sense.
Well, only 2 episodes have dropped so rather hard to compare just yet.
Although I liked episode one, I felt it sort of plodded along. Episode two had me leaning forward in my seat pretty much the entire hour.
Agree with Captain Canada, for those that don’t know the game, saying too much today is just a bad taste spoiler.
My son knows the game(s) and so far, he is very pleased with how the show is depicting the game and loves season 2 just as much as season one. I don’t know either of the games and just watch without knowing the back story. I am very much enjoying this season and very interested in how the season progresses.
Game of Thrones pulled it off so I’m not too worried. First episode was kind of annoying (felt unrealistic) but second was great. Looking forward to the rest of the season
The second game garnered a lot of mixed feelings for how it started out as well (not to mention controversy over a number of other aspects). The show isn’t jumping the shark, just staying relatively true to the game.
I have played both games. The second one starts off in a shocking way yeah but it finds its own ground. It’s a departure from the original. Some people hate it largely because their expectations were shattered. I love it for the same reason. Keep watching.
Just watched, I’m stunned, I think my wife is traumatized. Hard to visualize the series moving forward with the cast as it is. There just doesn’t seem to be the characters to be compelling beyond Elle
Late to the show. My wife and I watched the first 3 episodes yesterday. First two episodes were OK. The plot seems paper thin. Strikes me as a Walking Dead rip off with better CGI and monsters. Episode 3 (the gay couple) was like the show did a 180, great dialogue, emotions, etc. It had a completely different feel as if produced by an entirely different team.
Agree. Episode 3 Season 1 was superb. The rest was fine. I don’t care enough to watch season 2.
Contrarian opinion … I don’t find Pedro Pascal to be all that. He’s fine. No better or worse than any number of similar, essentially interchangeable actors.
I just started the show too. Kind of disappointed it appears to be another fairly predictable and played out post apocalypse zombie movie. Way too similar to the walking dead to be particularly exciting or compelling for me.
That being said, I’m still trudging through season 1 for now. The acting and writing in episode 3 was fantastic.
I’m always a little amused by this sort of comment. The show is based on, and pretty faithful to, a “zombie apocalypse” video game. I’m not sure what people expected other than another zombie apocalypse show.
I feel like it’s more than that. It’s much deeper than re-killing a bunch of zombies. I have zero interest in zombie apocalypse content but love this show.
There’s definitely more, and the character arcs for Joel and Elli are what made people love the game. But at its heart, the game and show are about a “zombie” apocalypse. So of course you’re going to get a lot of the normal action and beats of that genre.
