Fifth is a podium spot for NCAA swimming. There were awards involved. So yes, while Gaines capitalized on the opportunity she still had legitimate grounds.
Also, letās not pretend like the names Gaines was not already a household name in the swimming community.
Just reading a bit more about this whole Biles-Gaines news. Biles tweeted that Gaines should ābully someone her own size which would ironically be a man.ā
I think she loses a lot of credibility with that tweet. Biles had a whole ābody positivityā thing where she felt self-conscious about her muscles and size and had to overcome that and had a message to all girls about being confident with their body. And that it doesnāt matter what anyone says about you.
Not that it matters one bit what I think, but I wish Simone would hold a higher standard than to use Gainesā physical body as the target of her tweet and compare it to a man.
Iā¦I got nothing. Massive oversight on my part lol. I could have sworn I had this conversation with a patient of mine (who swam with Lochte) and I remembered leaving the conversation thinking they were related.
No one ⦠except for MtF athletes and their supporters, who have a great deal to say about whether (and under what circumstances) they can compete as females.
One of the things I find interesting and weird is the celebration of MtF athletes winning/medaling.
Hernandez is not a Jackie Robinson. Hernandez jumped 5ā7". That doesnāt place in a boysā dual meet (note: the triple jump distance is actually pretty decent).
Iām curious at what point men who identify as men start taking prize money at races by signing up in the female category. One of the arguments from the MtF athlete allies is that we ācanāt even define what a woman is.ā Well, by that standard, you sure as hell canāt define what it means to identify as one.
Again, if someone wants to live their life as the opposite sex, go for it. You have my support. But donāt go taking away accomplishments from biological women with your unremarkably male-athletic built bodies.
Yes, that is what I meant. The athlete and those who support them care if the athlete is not allowed to compete as a female or is allowed to compete but only under rules they consider unduly strict.
