Tommy killed it out there…super fun watching the race live yesterday. I would put some money on him taking care of some unfinished business in Kona this year. Just wanted to say a big thank you to his clothing sponsor from last year on leaving it until the last minute (early May) to let him know they weren’t going to support him this year. He looked pretty wicked in Bike Barn gear…plus his disk wheel looks hot with that airbrush paint job ![]()
You realize that you are not making sitting out of Ultraman Canada very easy! Glad to see that he is thinking about it for 2008. Will, yeah, the Bike Barn clothing looked great even on the crappy Ironmanlive video feed.
So does anyone know if Dr. Tommy has taken his Kona slot?
dev… i replied earlier that the focus of this season is hawaii and this was just the first step to it… if he didnt take the spot…it s probably that a airplane feel on his hotel room last night…
yeah… the bike barns clothes look cool… Will, you need to make triathlon clothes again…cool one!
as for tom, he had a lot of fun i think yesturday and i had the chance to tag along for most of the day… these last 4 miles where one epic battle with a few surges but Victor just had a bit more in the tank…
anyway, i m happy tom had a good race and didnt DNF because is B plan was ironman canada…and WE all know he isnt welcome to race ironman canada THIS year!!! STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!
The only thing better than a Dr. Tommy vs Victor smackdown would be a Jonnyo vs Dr. Tommy smackdown at IMC…glad to hear that the “main event” is deferred for some time…maybe we’ll see Jonnyo vs Dr. Tommy vs Victor at IMLP 2008…you guys are welcome to show up, just don’t be breaking Hellriegel’s record and lapping me.
something to do with leading from start to finish??? rhodsey has done that in im malaysia.
No Fulla, the record he is interested in and it may piss a lot of people off is the slowest marathon in an Ironman ever.Somthing like a 48 swim,go hard and sub 4:30 on the bike and then spend the rest of the day hanging out with the age groupers on the run for a 11:45ish marathon and a run to the end helping the the last finisher at 16:59:59.He would be "retired" when he tries this and mind you we were all drunk when the subject came up.I think the BOP's would love having Dr Tommy hanging out during the run.Not too often they would get to run with the likes of a guy like that.

Dev the big smackdown this year would be overshadowed by all the IMC legends turning up for the 25th Anniversary. They are tracking down all the past winners and inviting then all up for the party. Will be great to see Ray Browning and Tinley in Penticton again.Just hope some of the old girls show up too.Juileanne White, come on down!!!Holly Nybo, come on down Erin “the legend” Baker, bring that skinny husband of yours over here as well.Of course we can’t ever get enough of Lori!!
Just a quick note to say thanks for all the online support in this thread and the official CDA thread. I would have posted last night but it would have been drunk posting ![]()
I was again very happy with this race. I tried a totally different approach racing Viktor this time and it ended up pretty much the same finish as LP. Perhaps the wisdom of ST could offer a third strategy as my first two did not work
Then again I have no problem with second place to Viktor as he is a great guy (like the rest of the pros out there). Special kudos to Adam Jensen who biked a 4:45 to earn a 7th place finish…the guy just finished first year dentistry!!!
As a consolation I totally blew Bikebarn Will to pieces on the climb up Chute Lake road the week before. He has won Cat 1-2 hill climbs so it’s always nice when I can make him pop. Kinda some payback for the times he talks to me during our sprints just before he pulls away.
Dev, I forgot to tell you that you will be doing the cooking on your August visit here. I would be careful as there seem to be a trend starting here. I am working tues-fri that week so you might have to get the food ready before our Apex climb. All the local age groupers and that french guy will be crushing you and me as they will be peaking for Canada.
Thanks again, Tom
A different approach to racing Viktor? Two words: Tonya Harding. great job once again Dr. T!!!
My Granny suggested I get someone to leave garlic sausage and perogies along the road to get him to stop and eat however those are some of my favorites as well so I might be the one who stops.
The Tanya Harding thing is probably my only chance. Lets just keep this idea a secret!!!
Tom
Dev,
Why does it matter so much to you how someone else does it or doesn’t do it? The goal of this sport (and life) is to do it the way that makes you the happiest. Who cares if someone else uses PCs, lives by a spreadsheet, does it old school, whatever??? If they’re happy doing it that way and they’re successful then all the power to them. You constantly have to get in these jabs at people who don’t do it your preferred way. It’s a very unfortunate characteristic for someone who’s so passionate about the sport. Just a suggestion but you might want to look for opportunities to give people ideas on a different approach when they ask for help.
So, what gives? Tommy is clearly happy with his approach to the sport and life. That’s what gives…
I’ll admit that I was pretty bummed when they called Victor’s name’s instead of Tommy’s when I was watching on IM.com. No doubt, he had a great race but I would have loved to see him running through the finish line first this year.
Thanks, Chris
I think Dev is just pointing out that Dr. Tommy is the man despite the folks who say that Powercranks don’t do anything and that lifting weights is the worst thing you can do for you etc etc etc. I think Dev will agree with you that however a person consistently trains is great. But I could be speaking out of my arse. ![]()
Well Chris, I was not bashing anyone…I do agree that on this forum there are many caught up in the specifics of this that and another thing, and yes I have a contrary view to what works. I’ve been around this sport now for 22 years, and I’d like others to stick around and enjoy its benefits (if they want to…).
Variety and mixing things up and having flexibility have been the keys to longevity in this sport for a number of us. So when a guy like Dr. Tommy mixes it up and gets results, I like to promote that it is possible to haul ass in racing while not getting bogged down in too many specific workouts etc etc. I’m not sure what you read into it, but if you thought I was bashing Tom for mixing it up, then you read something into the original post that was not written ![]()
By the time we do the Apex climb it will be 15 days after Ironman LP…if I can’t hang with the local Penticton age group talent, I am a complete poser and I should be asked by QR to return my Lucero!
Dev
tom secret to succes is is training partners… end of the discussion! Tom, i do not ask any percentage of your gain as a thank you… I JUST WANT TO WALK THE DOG AT THE PARK!!!

Hey Tom,
Great seeing you in CdA. My wife is a huge fan of yours after having had dinner w/ you in LP last year. She was sorry that she did not personally get to greet or talk to you in CdA. She was cheering hard for you, so that was the good lookin’ babe near the finish shoot who you would have heard cheering :-)!
Great job, and look forward to seeing at the races!
I think Dev may be pointing out that perhaps too many people are missing out on the benefits of plain, consistent, uncomplicated, hard work when it comes to the old school way of doing things.I know that I feel the same way Dev does and I am quite the outcast here in Penticton amoung the tri-geeks for the way I go about training. No gizmos,no obsession with pie charts, graphs and power readings just long hard rides, runs and swims. That's what I'm training for so that's what I do.I also drink wine and beer, eat ice-cream and miss workouts when I want to.For some people the "triathlon industry" (and ST) has taken over the old triathlon lifestyle and made MOP's and BOP's feel like they have to be slaves to the almighty and all knowing triathlon industry instead of just going out and getting fast by having fun crushing your mates in training. For me there is too much science and not enough time spent in the pub in Ironman these days.
Hey Dev I'm not usually part of the "cool crowd" on the road here in Penticton but I may have to bandit the Apex smackdown in August.I'll be three weeks away from Ultraman and if I can't crush some upstart, east-coast,short-course Ironman guy then I should change my status to female for my little event in September. How's that for smack talk? All meant in the most heartfelt loving way of course. Now I better go do some training so I don't look like a crying high school girl when we ride uphill in six weeks time. ;)

Amen, Nick!
It’s not that complicated.
I better go on the Jonnyo starvation diet to drop some bulk for this hillclimb!
