What was he doing that was illegal? If you’re not required to do any sort of background check when making a private sale, what would get you in trouble with the law?

I can’t find the link but I read somewhere they had him for selling a machine gun.

I also read that he was modifying guns, which could be related, e.g. converting semi-auto to full auto.
As of right now it’s looking like he may not have broken any laws.
Reports are they are going to try to claim he needed a FFL to have that many guns but (as of now) there are no confirmed reports of anyone purchasing a weapon from.
Authorities are going through each weapon to see if any one particular gun is illegal to possess.
Basically he’s an avid collector with nearly limitless funds.
…and he’s out on bail.
