I was here then. I think I started hanging out on the forum in late '01 or early '02. Didn’t post much for a while, and still don’t post a whole lot. But I’ve been around for a while, I guess.
smartasscoach has been on triathlon forums as early as the initial days of the ARPANET…he is still using the email developed by Ray Tomlinson in something like 1971 or so…
I was TAD October-December 2002, and missed the changeover from the old forum. As it is, I returned and logged into the new one 2 Jan, 2003…pretty damn close…anyway…I’ve been around Slowtwitch since 1997…
For ST? Sometime in 99, maybe early 2000? Since the old forum is kaput, hard to say. RST would be 98.
Some interesting reading though if you look back at the main site and then go back through the old oped, skid’s stuff, the lifestyle columns and interviews.
I was around for the changeover from the old forum. I can’t believe that it was that long ago! I don’t know exactly when I started spending too much time reading this forum but it was probably about a year or so before the changeover.
Prior to the forum change Demerly had yet to make his presence felt. Bunnyman was probably the most prolific poster BTC (before the change). Through 2001 and the first half of 2002 I spent tons of time lurking as a grad student working for a university. This gave me plenty of time. I posted occasionally under a couple of differnt handles, even went so far as to use my real name a few times. By summer of 2002 I had to leave my comfortable situation as a grad assistant to go work in the “real world”. The forum change of 2002 happened right after I acccepted my current job and I spent much time getting organized to move, finding a place to live, trying to sell my house in Orlando, etc. Not much time to settle into the new forum, I ahd to settle into a new city and job. I didn’t rejoin the forum until August 7, 2003. At that point Tom Demerly was the forum King and Andrew Coggan was no longer using his own name. I also was able to see “Gary from SD” become “timetrial.org” the the current “Gary Tingley”.
So are you saying that none of us has had a life since 2002? I can’t sometimes believe how much time the puter sucks out of you. Good thing I get paid to surf sometimes. I also wonder how much of our GNP goes into surfing, or how much a large employer pays in surfing time? My bet a lot…
