The Cup is in the building

I still can’t believe the Blackhawks traded Phil Esposito to the Bruins.

This always looked* so VERY* wrong

I understand but, by the time the Hawks got Bobby Orr, he was half the player he used to be. His knees were shot. BTW, I thought Bobby Orr was the best player of his time before his knees gave out.

True, plus Eagleson SCREWED him out of a dignified retirement and a GM-ship in Boston

One of my brothers drank Guinness from the Cup when Brian Noonan won it with the Rangers in '94. He took the Cup home to South Boston and brought it into his favorite pub, where my brother was one of the doormen, and they kept filling it with Guinness and everyone who was in there (both patrons and staff) got to take a sip.

That still bothers me to this day to see Orr in a Hawks uniform, moreso with the way it all happened, which is why he became an agent himself to ensure that no player under his watch ever got screwed like that again. My favorite athlete of all-time in any sport.

One thing to add - note in the photo how his skates are tied; the laces stop at the top of the foot leaving the last few holes at the ankle empty. Years ago when he was posing for a huge wooden statue being carved of him (currenly in the New England Sports Museum inside the new Garden) he had to correct the sculptor who did his skates laced all the way up, saying that since his ankles were so strong he never needed to lace them all the way. Unbelievable.

Which is why* my* ankles are so “flexy” … I figured “If it’s good enough for Bobby Orr, it’s good enough for me” LOL

That’s 6 straight trips to the Stanley Cup Finals for the Flyers that ended in a loss. 76,80,85,87,97,10.

85 and 87 hurt bad.

(((((((SIGH))))))))

Leon Stickle’s blown call in '80 against the Isles was pretty painful … He was offsides THEN, he’s offsides NOW!!!
