are any of you feeling that we’re one disaster shy of a definitive end of the Trump era, and now it’s a race to the finish
the dance session was getting there, but not enough
can his campaign keep him reasonably on track/medicated for the next couple weeks to avoid a complete meltdown
which means their entire purpose is propping up a candidate for POTUS who appears more unfit to lead the country by the day. as moral vacuums go, that one is for the ages
At this point I’m convinced that people have already made up their mind who they’re voting for, and for those that are planning to vote for him nothing is going to change their minds. He has done and said so many things that in normal times would immediately result in him getting kicked to the curb, but these aren’t normal times apparently. I think the only “undecided” voters left are those that are trying to decide if they are voting at all or just staying home.
At this point, I doubt anything Trump or Harris says will change any minds. It’s all about the ground game — getting your supporters to turn out to vote, despite whatever obstacles may exist.
I haven’t had to deal with this with my own parents, but I have heard people say that mental decline can happen very quickly. At some point you know when it is time to take away the keys to the car. I think kiki is saying that they feel that Trump has approached a sudden down slope in his cognitive function. Or he is at the point that the right feel Biden hit a year ago. They want to know if we feel the same.
To your point, I think it would have to be very obvious that he is losing it for it to make a difference. Any swing voters at this point just part paying attention to things like McConnell pauses, or mistaking election day for January. Trump has spewed nonsense for years, so it would be hard to see an substantial changes. he could stand on stage an holler like a monkey and it would just be par for the course.
What are the odds that if Trump loses the election he’ll quickly have his lawyers claim that he’s no longer mentally competent to stand trial? To be fair he has some good grounds for that argument.
I’ve thought about that too. I also think that bm has a point below you. I could see trump instructing his lawyers to claim that he is mentally competent, while he rants about what a stable genius he is and repeats “MAN WOMAN PERSON TV CAMERA” to prove it. He’ll play both ends.
That being said - If he loses, he will do anything to avoid going to jail, probably even pretending to be mentally incompetent in front of a judge.
Odds? 100-1 against. The only case where he faces any prospect of going to trial soon is in DC, and Judge Chutkan would laugh at an incompetency defense. The bar for competence is extremely low. As BM says, Trump’s ego would not allow that defense. He’d rather just move to Russia.
My daughter used to work in DC and often had to sit in on Chutkan’s cases. She said it was great to watch her work. Very, “I don’t want any of your shit” type of person.
