So the baseball squadron that plays it’s games in Cleveland have decided that the name that they use is offensive but not so offensive that they can’t use it for another season.
I don’t get this at all.
If you are going to change it, just change it. Why does it take a full year to think of a new name?
If you think it will take a full year to come up with a new name (Cleveland Steamers, there done and done) why not think of the new name and then announce it?
Gotta use up all the letterhead and business cards, duh… And do you know how long it takes to sell out of Cleveland Indians merch? Who’s buying that stuff??
They’re going to run into similar issues as the Redskins did in that years ago someone bought up almost all the obvious names, domains, and trademarks the Indians would change their name. What the Indians have going for them is they’re not owned and run by a complete idiot, unlike the Redskins. The writing has been on the wall for a long time so I’d hope the Indians would have game planned this already and own domains and trademarks or at least have been negotiating obtaining them, unlike the Redskins.

How does Canada get away with calling a team the Canucks? My one friend from Canada told me that was a derogatory term, insulting, and I should never use it around Canadians. Was he wrong?
Athletic team mascots should only be based on white male christian characters.
The only way to get rid of racism in sports is stop honoring all non-white groups with team names.
Cleveland should change their name to…
The Caucasians
The Jesus - scratch that, sounds too Mexican
The Evangelicals
The Coptics
The Whites (Pride of Cleveland)
What are we to do about the football team? Browns? Come on, man!
Malarkey!
You mean the team named after one of the greatest coaches to ever coach professional football?
Doesn’t matter we all know what brown means now.
I mean, I used to love Indians. I wanted to be an Indian when I was a kid. When we played cowboys and Indians I was always an Indian. I was an Indian for Halloween a few times. The Cleveland Indians were my favorite baseball team because their name and mascot honored Indian heritage. But now we know that liking, honoring, wanting to be like and dressing like Indians is offensive. It’s only a matter of time until people with the last name of Brown are going to have to get rid of that offensive name.
The football team can be called the Whites or they can be called The Teamed Named After That Good Coach.

Good to know. This person got pissed when we referred to her as a Canuck.
