Has anyone tried these shoes out yet? I just got a pair and love them so far, but have only been on one run with them.
I’ve got a preliminary review up for them here.

Like you I just got a pair yesterday. Hit about 5 miles on them this morning. Felt pretty good. I was in NB Minimus and I still like the feel of the minimus better. I was just starting to get some foot pain, I think because I had worn out the NB and wasn’t getting any support, foot would ache all day long after even a short run. I put my green superfeet inserts in the Pureflow and no pain today at all. Going to hit 8 miles on them in the morning.
yup,
ran 15 miles (10 and 5) in pureflow.
going back to the store.
felt bulky and gave me hotspots.
Now, pureconnect felt like a dream when I tried them on at the store, unfortunately not the right shoe for me. maybe speed work?
Mine look bulky also but wasn’t sure if that was just because I ran in the minimus. By look visually when I look at them because the sole sticks out a little on the side its looks more like a cross trainer than a running shoe. I’ll see how the 8 feels in the morning.
My choices were Kinvara felt a little tight in the toe box, Nike free 3.0, had original frees in 2002 and the heel blew out too quickly and nike wouldn’t honor the warranty, and the Pureflows. My critera low heel to toe drop 4mm or less and a wide toe box. The Pureflow felt great when I put them on felt ok on the run, although I was a tiny bit slower. Not sure if that is because I havent been able to keep up my miles because of foot pain the past couple weeks or if it was the shoes. I did feel faster in the minimus.
its funny I felt slower too than in my kinvaras
.
Damn! I thought it was just me but I was also slower with my connect. I have tried every shoe out there and I thought this would be my dream shoe. Kinvaras feel too bulky since I have a narrow foot. Connect feels perfect but maybe with all the cushioning it is a tad too dampening. The problem with the minimus is foot pain. I can run forever on the pure connect without pain. I also feel that I get a much more natural foot strike, don’t have to think about it as much.
Gonna use the Brooks for training, probably stick with isotransitions for tri’s
Tried on the Connect & the mid-foot was way too firm. Not what I would tend to call a pure racing shoe. Nice, felt good but not something I’d race in. I’d say the Saucony Fastwitch 5 is more of a perfect fit for me from an overall perspective heel to toe. The new Adidas Adios 2 that will be released in December looks like a possible nice shoe to race in. They’ve added a 3rd strand on the foot bridge of the Torsion system.
I have a pair of Connects and they are growing on me. I agree that the outer portion of the midsole feels hard to me. I also have fat flat feet.
The connect felt a little too firm to me too. The two “pods” at the bottom in the midfoot were immediately apparent after only a few strides too.
Just tried the PureFlow on a 10 miler yesterday. After a couple miles they felt like they weren’t even there. I think we have a winner!
it’s the miles, or lack thereof that make you slower. A shoe won’t make you faster or slower. Remember the secret is there is no secret, just miles in the legs.
You should all try the true and only full zero drop shoe in the market with the Altra Instinct. http://www.altrazerodrop.com/
The shoe is actually made to fit your foot and I’ve put 700-800 miles in a pair. The more you run in them the more comfortable they feel. They are working on a lighter weight version that will come out soon. The size 9 in the instinct right now only weighs 8.6oz I believe so the weight isn’t bad.
amlemus
Your supposed to feel the pods. I’m very close with my running store and the brooks ID athletes in it. I have tried out all 3 types (allbeit no more then 1 or miles) and The pods are initially annoying but they are there to try and make minute changes in your form.
When the foot drops, humans tend to begin supination 3/4 of the way from heel to mid arch. If uninhibited it will continue to roll along the edge of the foot (progressively less as you near push off), as push off begins the rest of the foot and ball of the foot come into play.
These “pods” are designed to teach you and your body better form, gently trying to push you into a flatter landing/ foot fall. It’s all muscle memory and supposedly consistent wear will help improve form. I’ll try anything once and I liked it and I personally didn’t feel them much but, I’m 23 and very light and lean, I have a cadence of 179 and have very consistent form and “normal” foot. I can wear minimalist shoes without issue day in day out.
I guess what I’m driving at here is that I’d give it some time. Each shoe company has there own way of doing things. I wear brooks (ghost + Launch) as well as saucony (Kinvara+Mirage). I use them all for different reasons.
Good luck and holler at me if you have any questions on Good Form Running / shoe selection / running pain or issues.
(background) I was a GFR teacher, and went through a very rigorous shoe fitting and pain injuries trianing for a running store in kalamazoo. I feel that I can give pretty good advice. FWIW
I’m really impressed with the PureConnect/PureFlow actually. I’m a bit of heavier runner I guess. I’m 5’11" and 180lbs, so I feel good with a little more shoe underneath me. I felt that difference almost immediately after I took some strides with the PureFlow vs. the PureConnect.
I’m also a Kinvara fan. I used those almost exclusively for the past 8-9 months. The only issue I had with those is that my feet felt like they were spilling over the sides a bit, but that’s more an issue with my feet than the shoe. They’re a great shoe regardless and I’ll likely continue using them for shorter work.
I did a little write up on the PureFlow a couple days ago. Any feedback re: inaccuracies or differences of opinion are always welcome.
I have to write a follow up. I now love my Pure Connects. They felt weird in the beginning but now I am in truly in love. Feel like my mid/fore foot strike is much more natural and I dont have to think about it. Most importantly I am logging some long miles and not feeling it in the metatarsal heads like I used to. I am converted. Anybody want some slightly worn Kinvaras
how’s the sizing in altra insticts? i’m 10.5-11 in kinvaras.
Been using Kinvara 1’s for a while, found the 2’s a little more snug so changed to the Pureflow. I love my Kinvaras but tried the pure flow. I have done about 200k in the Brooks, micx of trail and road. They feel great, more cushioning than the Saucony but there is something about them I cannot pinpoint. They certainly wear better, feel softer but I went back to the Kinvaras today…and loved them again.
I use 11 in kinvara, 10.5 in the PF. I will be usin my PF for long runs, but stick with the Kinvaras for racing and shorter runs.
so if I love my launches for shorter/faster days, and the ghosts for the LSD I’m doing now that its off-season. Which Pure shoe is better for me?
I returned my Pure Connects after initially loving them. I gave them a good go, but those high arches were just brutal. I loved everything else about the shoe, but after about the first mile they started causing bad foot pain. I’m back to short training runs in Vibrams and long runs in Asics GTs.
