So there are 2700 people signed up for IM Wisc, which seems like quite a few to me. Even assuming a good 5% don’t show, that’s one of the largest attendances I’ve ever heard of. Does anyone know which venue has hosted the largest(in terms of participants of course) IM? Has the WTC ever released anything suggesting that there will be a finite and definite cap at any point in the future?
i think Quelle Challenge Roth draws ~4500. or do you mean just mass start m-dots?
Would it be reasonable to assume that in general we could expect swim times to suffer because of this? I’m an IM virgin, so I don’t know. I am one of those 2700 though.

Roth maybe thoght they had over 3000 at one time note sure … someone else know the exact numbers…they had wave starts.
Imlou had over 2900 signed up but looks like only 2353 finished officially and I believe race day or numbers handed out was like 2600 or so.
You won’t have 2700 start at wisconsin.
…for most triathlons a 10% no show rate is typical…
IMC 2009 had over 2600 as a mass start last month.
That’s a bunch of people…I wonder how many are first-timers. Last year it seemed like a lot of folks seeded themselves rather optimisticly, and I spent a lot of time trying to go around folks. My plan this year is to get into the water early and secure a spot on the ski-jump ramp so that I can start a bit wide, and avoid the whole spawning salmon melee that’s gonna happen near the center.
Spot
I was 1 of the 2600 or so starters at IMC…There were 800, give or take a few first timers…I don’t know how many official finishers there were, but I was one of them…Second start, second finish and counting…
IMC this year listed 2832 bib #s signed up; they told us at the pre-race dinner that 2627 actually showed to pick up their registrations; results list 2602 total (i.e., activated their chip at the start), w/ 2381 official finishers.

So, I wonder what happened to those 25 people who picked up their chip but never went in? Maybe a few were sick and hoped they would feel better. Maybe some overslept the start? I know that is always a recurring nightmare for me, especially when I travel to races on the other side of the country
I wondered too… Besides a major snafu on race morning, I also figured it’s possible if you knew you couldn’t race due to injury or whatever but had already booked the trip and shelled out the cash (perhaps for a family vaca, or if you’re going with a spouse who’s also entered), might as well go ahead and pick up whatever schwag you’ve paid for and are entitled to. Or maybe they got wasted standing in line for the free crocs and couldn’t recover before Sunday…
2700? Absolutely no chance of drafting on that bike course.
I was there. I saw the mass start. Actually I was right in the middle of it. And I finished it. My first! woooh hooo!
