The best triathlon/transition bag: Your vote?

Which triathlon/tranistiion bag do you guys like best. I am trying a few different types and coming up with some interesting findings and preferences.

I have tried the T2 from Triathlonbags.com, the DeSoto bag and the Jandd bag as well as some others that you may not think of as triathlon bags.

What are your thoughts/experiences/preferences?

My trusty Brooks gym bag (a prize for winning my AG a while back) has never let me down. That said, I am interested in such a product as well. What does/doesn’t work?

The Jandd bag has been great, it just needs bigger shoe pockets on the sides.

I like the TYR bag I picked up in SanFran this spring. I was considering the DeSoto, but I don’t like the duffel bag type. the TYR opens up completely, zippers all around, shoes pockets, bottle pockets, key clip, wet pocket, under $50.

The Jandd bag has done me right so far. Just the right size IMO. Could use another pocket inside the main compartment though…

I love the Jannd bag. It is big enough to hold everything but no so huge that it gets in the way during the race.

I use the Jannd bag - it is almost perfect. Actually Wendy Ingraham sent me one of the new TYR bags for a friend and it is also well designed.

I have used the T2 from triathlon bags…seems to hold the right amount for me without allowing me to go too nuts and take too much crap. The shoulder and hip belt are great when you have to park a bit farther from the transition and ride your bike in…Has outside mesh pockets for two bottles and another mesh net that you can put shoes on if you are wearing your bike helmet…The inside compartments …two, are enough and help keep me organized once I get into my crazed mode setting up before the race. been thinking about getting their inflatable foot bath…to rinse off da feet fast in transition…reminds me…need to get speed laces or something else to help get my T2 time faster…tieing bows in the running shoes and double knotting etc seems to take too much time…

Another vote for the TYR bag! Good size pockets, but not too many so you lose stuff like the Zoot one. Two good size shoe pockets and the fun bungees on the outside for your helmet! The clip out wet bag is GREAT!

To be perfectly honest, I have a difficult time spending $50 and up on a bag when my $5 bag from some cheap store works fine. I think that a semi large bag with pockets for wetsuit and helmet that is priced about $25 is my limit. I may even stretch to $30 if it looks cool.

ditto - the Jandd bag is great - much better than the Saucony bag I had before (it fell apart). I must have big feet because I, too, wish for bigger shoe pockets.

As a jet-setter, the T2 is awesome. It holds all my tri gear (wetsuit, shoes, helmet, etc) so that don’t need to pack that stuff in my checked baggage. Although for short trips to local events, it is a bit unwieldly… but that’s why there is the little transition bag inside. My only complaint is that the “wet clothes” pouch is difficult to access and even harder to put stuff in.

I like the ones made by Hefty or Glad.

I like the Zoot bag since I have to travel for a lot of the races I do. Tons of room and can be carried on. Perfect for race clothes and the essentials like toiletries, heels, and clean lingerie…

second those. when you get there before the race, people laugh at you. after the race they are jelous…

I like the Jandd. Cheap and functional. I agree with the others that one more pocket would be nice.

Does the Zoot bag have seperate pockets for shoes? That is the one I have not tried yet.

if you get the zoot bag just remember it LARGE!! or should I say EXTRA LARGE. I like to carry everything I’ll need from early spring cold to late summer hot.

Yup, one section inside the bag has two zippered mesh compartments - one for bike shoes, one for running shoes. One of the guys I know wears like a size 12 shoe and they fit his shoes so they are pretty big.

Tom,

We stock TriathlonBag and TYR, and the TYR bag is much better designed. Every customer who has come in looking for a tri bag has looked at both and chosen the backpack bag from Tyr. I have one myself and it works VERY well. In fact, I rode the 12 miles from the transition area of the NYC tri back to my apt in Brooklyn with the Tyr bag on my back, and it was pretty comfortable.

I don’t have any experience with the Jannd bag, but having seen all the positive reviews I’m going to check it out.
