At the LBS Saturday, was looking at the glass case reserved for the higher coin tricky stuff and noticed a Wippy TI hollow pin chain. Damn, the thing is packaged in a Cartier-esque felt-lined box, is made of TI and has link cuttouts for lightness. Beautiful. I figure I could also wear it to parties etc, but at 250 grams for US$325, how much advantage is there over a 30 buck DA or SRAM PC-99 chain? Anybody have experience using this guy? Should I wait for the carbon version…

Titanium does not have good mechanical wear characteristics. Wipperman chains are nice. The boys at ShimaNO say their 10 speed chain works great with their “old” 9 speed stuff. That chain is like 277 grams. Pretty reliable, and cheap. Alloy crank bolts will save you the same amount of weight and cost about $25 bucks.
