The AmEx ad

this ad SHOULD be turned off within a few minutes of this post. what you SHOULD see is the AmEx popunder, if you do not have a pop-up blocker activated. you SHOULD see this popunder no more than ONCE per user session here.

here is the arrangement: this big 728x90 banner at the top of the page is served by a triathlete who runs a new business called active athlete media. great guy, great new company. he’s going out and getting non-endemic sponsors who’ll throw some advertising dollars at our great demographic.

these ads will run on a variety of sites, such as tri newbies, triathlete magazine, the official tour de france site, run the planet, and others.

the thing is, i’m very picky about this stuff, and ads that will run elsewhere i won’t allow to run here. yesterday they asked if they could restart the amex popunder, and i said okay because, as you might remember, i polled all of you about this prior to allowing it to run.

unfortunately, they also started up this annoying AmEx banner, and they should not have (and they have apologized to me, and to you all).

this is the second time a non-standard ad has run in this spot, the first being the equally annoying talking yoga ad. that was removed almost immediately, that is, within 30 minutes of the first time i saw it.

fortunately, they have functionality allowing them to selectively turn campaigns on and off of slowtwitch without effecting the way the ads run on other sites. they are a growing company, have new folks in charge of accounts like me, and these new folks were not aware of the persnickety nature of the fellow running this site. they are now apprised of that fact.

we have a system in place where i’m supposed to see, and demo, any “non-standard” ad before it runs. i do believe we’ll have good compliance on that going forward. so, i ask that you don’t judge, us, them or AmEx too harshly. please continue to bring to my attention anything that is awry or questionable here.

Dan,

thanks for the prompt attention.

My original post was not meant to be a whine or an attempt to start a boycott of ST or AmEx.

Now, back to wasting my employers money reading regular threads…
