The 2026 30,000 rep challenge

4/26:

95 minute spin up the Col de la Monde. That was mean. But I earned a lake of striped socks for the effort.

250 push up’s

50 dips

500 core reps

Down 14 lbs since January.

That’s awesome, solid work!

I think my weight may have dropped 2lbs at most which is disappointing (5’10” and 225#) but my core and lower body are rock solid and stronger than ever.

The pushups have measurably improved my strength. Two days ago I went higher weight on the slight incline bench press than usual. Ten years ago I tore my R pectoral tendon off the humerus bone while bench pressing and despite full recovery postop I’m gun shy to test it, so I keep the weight low and work to failure. Occasionally I’ll feel the screws causing bone ache when I do.

I repped 225# six times easily before racking it for lack of a spotter, but I had an easy 8 and probably a hard 12 had I pushed it. I haven’t moved weight like that since college 27 years ago. The pushups are for sure driving that progress.

Thanks @sphere. It feels good to be constantly workin gout for the first time in years. The weight loss is just a bonus.

5’10” and 225 while being solid is impressive. At 5’9” the most I ever got to was 210 in college when I was playin football. This January I hit 209 and didn’t look anything like I did at 21 when I was 210. I would like to be around 185-90.

Being able to do 12 reps of 225 on the inline reps is very impressive as well. I hope your pec stay healthy. Tearing one sounds nasty.

Week of 4/20 totals:

6 hours and 40 minutes of spinning

1,550 core reps

2 strength sessions.

This is turning into a spinning challenge for me.

Finishing up a brutal run at work, 60h over four days, not getting much exercise (or sleep) in lately. Just knocked out some reps while the tide ebbs a bit.

New Peloton Tread+ arrives tomorrow, Mother’s Day gift for the wife. We’re signed us up for HYROX in September (DC) so there’s that. Yay.

The Peloton + looks cool. I hope she enjoys it. Good luck with your HYROX training. My son’s friend does them. It looks like something would have enjoyed when I was younger. 60 hours over 4 days is crazy. It is amazing that you can fit in any exercise.

4/30:

30 minute strength

20 minute uphill treadmill walk

I just finalized a verbal agreement with the physician/APP recruiter at a semi-local regional medical center, which also happens to be the home of my graduate program. I’ll be joining the ICU group under the cardiac surgery program beginning October 1. They’re implementing Columbia University Hospital’s cardiac surgery post-op management model and offered me one of the two available positions. Half the distance from home as my current and long time gig, more focused and specialized, 12 hour shifts only, same salary with better benefits. So this stupid schedule I’ve been running since early pandemic 2020 is finally coming to an end.

My goal is to drop 10lbs by that start date and maintain the muscle mass. HYROX race date is early September so that should help a good bit. Only downside is I have to start running again. God I thought I was done with that nonsense.

I am happy for you. My friend’s wife has been working three 12 hour shifts a week at the local hospital for years and she loves the schedule.

I still miss running, especially the Sunday morning long runs with my buddy.

This thing is a beast. The knobby plank belt is interesting, feels like running on the road but more forgiving.

Congrats on the new opportunity! Sounds like it will be a better work/life balance! And running is fun! I want to do more.

Did a guided one day tour into the mountains north of Madrid. My son came along. So much fun. What a great day. Over 4400 feet of climbing with a fun 30-35 minute “big” climb.

A couple of pictures…

Have you noticed any difference in your physique or strength from all those reps? Do you feel like you’re plateauing at all?

Secondly, I’ll be following your hyrox journey. I was all jazzed to sign up for the Vancouver event before I hurt my lower back last June. I still can’t run. Keep us posted on your training.

Third, congratulations on the new position at work, that sounds like a great opportunity and way better work life balance.
