How do you structure your pushups? I rarely do more than 40 at a time to start (55-60 with good form is likely my max). I typically do 40/20/20/20 alternating hand placement and muscle region focus.

Different ways depending on the day, workout, and how my elbows are feeling.

If I am alternating them with core or some type of kettlebell or exercise band movement I will do sets of 50.

Some days after a spin I will see if I can do 200 in under 4 minutes. When I do this I try to do 40-40-30-30-30-30. It doesn’t always work out that way and I sometimes break down the last two sets of 30 into whatever I can manage before failure.

Occasionally I will try to max out my first set between 75-100 then do whatever I can to get to 200.

At the gym I hold onto 25 lb dumbbells to get a deeper stretch.

I don’t mix up my hand placement as much as I used to. If go out much wider than my shoulders it hurts my shoulders. So traditional and close grip is what I mainly concentrate on.

I recently started using our yoga blocks for this, and for deeper stretch on kettlebell deadlifts. Gives maybe 5” more depth with stability and a soft surface for hand placement.

For me, I find playing with different ways to modify push ups keeps my workouts fun and interesting…

different hand placements - close, wide, staggered;

sidestep movements - “walk a step” sideways, pushup, walk back, pushup, etc.

different leg placements - put legs elevated on a step, then elevated up on 2 steps, etc.; Or do pushups alternating with one leg elevated.

different movements - tyson pushups, into/out of down dog, into/out of side plank with extended arms, etc.

Mixing and matching all of the above never gets tiring. Actually, I do get tired.

Came in to work at 7am Friday and haven’t left since, 1.5h left before home. But I did get two solid workouts in despite working five 12h shifts in 3 days. Tomorrow (today?) I’ll sleep at least 12 and get back on schedule.

The last 12h stretch: 100 pushups, 100 squats, 200 core reps, three emergent responses, four code blues, seven procedures, two intubations, one chest tube thoracostomy to relieve a tension hemothorax in cardiac arrest, two massive transfusion protocol initiations and eight admissions. And lots of flights of stairs but I wasn’t keeping count.

Cumulative:

Pushups: 2,200
Body weight squats: 2,350
Abs/core reps: 4,700

2/2 - day 32

Things happen and sometimes an unplanned rest day is a good thing.

Cool dog. What breed?

I live with these three knuckleheads. Two of which are attached to my lap whenever I sit on the couch.

You are a beast sphere. I would be a zombie with that schedule.

Good job getting your reps in @gfd You were right, a rest day was good. I will slowly make up the time.
