For Lance
.
I disagree.
Astana had a set plan today, they made that clear. The plan was probably executed to perfection. Contador explodes today. On Tuesday, Lance will fire. Then Contador, then Lance. The idea could be to keep them both at the top of the GC, 1 and 2. One of them goes for the win, the other one controls late-stage attacks. Finally, on Ventoux, anything goes, and they can finally attack each other. Winner is the stronger of the two.
How cool would that be?
The problem with that is I don’t think Contador would sit in while Lance attacked. He’s flying now…
Lance hasn’t attacked in 5 years. The Tour’s over.

Good point. Guess it’s wishful thinking.
you keep smoking what your smoking. contador won’t let lance get in front of him.
For Lance
Agreed. Tom Watson is the only old boy likely to win a title this month.
Yep Lance didn’t have it as Cadel Evans was even able to out climb him without having someone like Kloden pacing. I’m hopeful that maybe Lance had an off day but if not then maybe he can try to win the ITT. Although if he gets 2nd overall is it a failed comeback? 7 straight, 3 years off, 2nd overall not bad if it holds up. Although he couldn’t keep up with the Schlecks or Sastre.
Ventoux is where 2nd and 3rd will be deciced.
finally a decent stage with a hill at the end. the tour was boring so far with only the andorra stage giving it some alpine excitment
Contador has it…
that would be very cool but looking at them today doesn’t seem likely unless Lance is up for an academy award, he rode strong but didn’t look like he could cover the moves of the Schleck’s, Wiggins, etc, Kloden looked like he could have if he wasn’t pacing for Lance, AC was in a league of his own today
.
I agree. I understand that he shouldn’t chase down Contador, but once the other riders started pulling away, if he was able, he would have hung with them. You know something’s up when Bradley Wiggins rides away from him. Sastre put on a good show. Way to pull it back together after getting in trouble.
Brad
If you timed from the bottom of the hill, Sastre probably had the 2nd fastest time up next to Contador. Impressive.
but it is only the first day in the Alps. You can have a bad day and then a good one…
I would like to see Sastre do it - let LA podium and take it next year…
I think that this stage has shown that while Lance is still good that he is not nearly as strong as before. Lance got dropped and everyone knows it. It has shown a chink in the armour and people will no be afraid to exploit it and attack.
Lance better behave and act as a good domestique…
Frankie just asked Lance whether he knew he could no longer win the tour and he agreed.
Epic!
Classy comments by Lance. Said Contador is the best.
He is being interviewed and saying that just that right now!!! Good for him - showing humility!
Nice interview with Lance on Versus. Pretty much give props to AC and admits that his chances for this year are over. “We can ride into Paris with the yellow jersey. It’s OK, I’ve got 7 of them at home”.
Brad
Lance said it himself during the post race interview.
Agreed. It’s impressive that Lance was able to hang close with the best in the world at 37, but he couldn’t even stay with Kloden on that last little kick up to the finish. Right now, he’s the most famous domestique ever.
