Testicle pain from running?

Did a turkey trot this a.m and after the first mile had to drop out as there was some testicle pain…happened a few weeks ago at a moderate pace, a few days rest took care of the pain, biking is no problem…possible hernia?

I had a similar thing about 3 years ago. It felt like someone had kicked in the nuts after I went running. I had an inguinal hernia. I had it surgically repaired and I have had no pain since. The first few runs after the surgery hurt quite a bit but it gets better fast.

Could be prostate related. I used to go through spells of prostate inflammation when I’d gear up my running in the spring. Although I’m not sure of the cause, I figured it was due to something muscular in the area causing irritation. Lower back ache and feeling like I’d been kicked in the nuts were the symptoms.

tough call - i’ve had nut pain in tris that’s developed during the swim or bike, but gone away on the run - or at least not gotten any worse. if this is the second time in a month you might want to have it looked at. (by a doctor, i mean.) it probably won’t be a terribly fun check-up, but it’s best not to take chances with the nuts.

thanks for the reply, please define “gets better fast”! How long were you laid up from biking, swimming?

The Doc said to take two full weeks off after the surgery. I took 5 days off them started swimming and easy spinning on the bike. After 10 days I started some short runs. After about 3 weeks I was back to my regular running schedule.

what kind of doc diagnosed you? There has been some frequent urination on trainer rides, maybe it could be prostate related.

It was an Internal medicine Doc. I then went to s surgeon who confirmed the problem and performed the surgery. I have no idea about prosate issues. I often had a dull ache in my groin just while sitting. After running or riding I would have more pain. You should go to your regular Doc he/she will have a good idea if it is a hernia or not. They will do that turn your head an cough thing. If they do that and it hurts like hell then you have a hernia.

Could also be a torsioned testicle. Some other possibilities described here:

Don’t forget about the dreaded blue balls.

Although waaaaaaay out of my specialty, it may be a simple varicocele. They tend to be more left-sided…and get sore with athletics. Have your doc(FP,IM,urology…) check it out.

This happened to me a few years ago. Biking OK, but running required very tight support. I was pretty sure it was a hernia, or else some evil form of cancer that would cause a gruesome writhing death. Turned out it was epididymitis, easily treated with a simple antiinflamatory. Go get it checked. Cancer is not the most likely cause, but it’s the deadliest.

Maybe you need a nut bra
