My belief from everything I’ve seen is that Trump voters only want bad things to happen to other people. I picture Windy as a wealthy, white, older man, probably retired who is insulated from the ill effects of MAGA. I don’t wish him ill will. I have nothing against him. But he doesn’t understand that real people are getting hurt in many different types of ways. I feel guilty feeling badly about my own situation when families are getting torn apart by ICE coming to their homes in the middle of the night. And innocent fathers are getting thrown into jails in El Salvador while the White House is admitting it was a mistake, but can’t do anything about it. And this nightmare has only gotten started. It’s going to be a long fucking 4 years.
Keying vehicles is wrong. It’s happening quite a bit here as we have high EV numbers and a lot of those are teslas. This was just posted on my feed. Let’s just say, this looks exactly like the type of person you would think would go around vandalizing teslas.
You answered a different question than I intended to ask.
I’ll rephrase.
Have you changed your persona or actions? For example I still hold the door for people, say please and thank you, don’t key cars with Harris stickers etc.
It wasn’t a FYIGM…It’s more I refuse to be part of the devolution of polite society where keying someone’s car is perceived as political protest etc. and saying these are not normal times is not an excuse to not condemn such actions. Pick some action “from the other side” and I’ll probably condemn it as well.
Where and how I grew up emphasized social mores and manners. I still believe it’s impolite to talk about money religion or politics even though I enjoy the topics.
Well considering I’m in my forties still working in capital markets with a kid in preschool your perception is a bit off and Trump policies affects my everyday life (as did Biden’s and every other administration).
My point was people should be able to drive a Tesla without worrying about it being keyed in Berkley the same as driving a panel van with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris faces on it to Mar Lago regardless of the normality of the times. The fact that is not the case bothers me.
A far as morals, I haven’t changed. I would never key anyone’s car, no matter what the message was on the car (bumper stickers, flags)
But I have definitely changed over the years thanks to the deep division in this country. This toxic hatred of Trump and his actions is unhealthy and has had a negative affect on me. I’m polite in public but no longer the friendly easy going person I used to be. I take responsibility for my own reactions and changes. But yes, I am a different person now in many ways.
I am not disagreeing with your last point. I have said it at least a half dozen times now, I am against vandalism of any kind. No one should have to worry about someone hurting or keying their car no matter who they support.
I have to wonder, did Trump make it possible for all the worst people to be the worst? (both on the left and right). I was alive for Reagan and both the Bushes’ presidencies. America felt very much different back in those times. Trump has created such a deep division that I wonder if we will ever recover from this deep toxic hatred (yes from both sides).
Back to my perception of you. Being younger with children, the ripple effects of this administration’s actions may affect you too. I hope they don’t.
My wife and I were walking the dog yesterday on a residential street a couple blocks from our downtown and saw 12 Teslas in about a minute. Target rich environment.
You argued that keying a car was like kicking a dog because the Packers lost. I think you are now conceding that was not analogous.
Now, you’re arguing that keying a car is terrorism? In your state, terrorism carries a penalty of 20 years. Do you think that is right for keying a car? Terrorism concerns a degree of public fear that is absent when you’re keying a car. We ought to be able to agree that keying a car is wrong, but it’s not a major felony akin to terrorism.
I think keying a car is different when the driver slept with your wife vs the driver did nothing to you- and you are angry at someone totally unrelated.
People here have admitted that keying is done to scare the larger population away from buying that brand of car.
right… me not caring that people are vandalizing tesla dealerships because their spokesperson is ruining america, and doing the nazi salute is the same as storming the nations capitol when the person that was elected president was not the one i voted for.
same thing. gotcha… lol. people are grasping so hard to make this something.
yeah, i really don’t give two shits about tesla dealerships getting vandalized. human beings are being deported to countries they have never set foot in, without due process. fucking dolts.
It’s all bad- Tesler (typo but I’m going to leave it LOL) dealerships being trashed, Jan 6 riots, and deportations. And I’m with you in that I am horrified of these recent deportations since Trump took office again.
It’s very possible that some Tesla dealership owners might be left leaning folks who now despise Elon Musk. They could have started the dealerships before Musk turned into a far-right wing crazy person who is cruelly dismantling the federal govt and giving nazi salutes and supporting neo nazi parties in Europe. I bet some of these owners are probably horrified just like most of us. So, it sucks that they are the victims of this vandalism. If someone told me 5 years ago Elon Musk would be doing what he’s doing now, I would have thought they were nuts.
I really prefer that we boycott instead of vandalize. And I’m sorry if Tesla dealership owners get caught in the crossfire. It’s a terrible situation. It’s truly a shame that Musk fell so low. He could be doing so much good for the world with his incredible wealth and supposedly high IQ (??). Instead he is making enemies and hurting people.
Interesting. I didn’t realize that. But still, it might affect innocent people working at these dealerships who have families. Just a bad situation all around.
I really wish Musk would quietly back down and leave the Trump administration, stop DOGE, stop interfering in elections and just focus on Starship or whatever. And sell Twitter to an outside investor.
