Besides hitting Trader Joe’s for the staples can anyone suggest some good restaurants for the family that offers a healthy selection for kids and “race participants” (that is safe on the stomach, especially later in the week before the race).
Can’t resist this of course. Come see me at SASSI- see menus, map etc at www.sassi.biz. Our typical guest is not a kid, but we have lots of kids in all the time and numerous things kids love - simple pastas, caprese salad with real buffala mozzarella and our home made gelato. For adults hand made pastas, mostly organic veggies, Niman ranch pork, locally raised lamb, no farmed fish, etc. Lots of ways to eat. And of course my baby the 200+ Italian wines. We’re a good 30 mins from Tempe area hotels but a nice drive or hike on Pinnacle Peak before dinner. I’m the manager/ operating partner - ask for the guy on crutches, I have a broken leg right now.
Banderas! You’ll love the corn bread! Im not sure this is the best choice from a heath/financial standpoint but the food is unreal! Old Scottsdale.
For casual lunch or dinner, check out Pita Jungle: http://www.pitajungle.com/
There is one on Apache Blvd, 1/2 mile east of Rural, and one at Scottsdale Rd/Shea (NE corner near Coffee Plantation). Decent. somewhat healthy food, can bring kids, too.
SASSI is awesome, by the way, but you will definitely spend a lot more for dinner than at most places. And I wouldn’t go in there after hiking, at least not the way I sweat Maybe they’d let me sit on the patio, away from other patrons…Seriously, it is a pretty nice (upscale) place.
YC’s Mongolian Grill. The food will be as healthy as you want it to be and the kids will have a blast making their own grub. Cheap too as your kids can probably share one meal. Seriously, give it a shot. It is awesome.
Looks good. What is the dress attire? Casual nice? Looks like something my family would love.
Although the name irritates me, a bunch of people from my tri club went to My Big Fat Greek Restaurant for dinner the night before SOMA half. Good healthy food options. I had the chicken souvlaki. It’s on Mill, walking distance from transition area.
My family loves the Mill area. We’ll check it out. Thanks!!!
PERFECT!!! Something for everyone. Thanks.
speaking of Soma, well, there’s always Soma!
