Team Atomica masters swim in Toronto?

I’ve heard good things about Team Atomica’s masters swim programs, through not directly from people who have actually done the swims. Coaches look good on paper…

Does anyone have direct experience? Thinking about joining - would be my first experience with masters swimming

thanks

I’d never heard of Team Atomica before this post, despite swimming in Toronto for 15 years, but I swam with Ayesha Rollinson at UofT, and she’s great.

My girlfriend swam with Ayesha (not sure if it was with Team Atomica or before that) and really liked it. She said Ayesha is very hands on and gives everyone a lot of attention. Only stopped swimming with Ayesha because the prices went way up.

I’ve never swam with Team Atomica, or any club for that matter, but I’m considering joining the open water swimming.

Swam one winter with Ayesha’s group - quite impressed with the workouts, more tri specific than other masters group - and every week she had some nuggets about race strategy, so that was a bonus - I also did a few of her open water swims in Lake Ontario, quite useful too, so 2 thumbs up.

Quick update on this. I joined and I’ve done the first two sessions of the season this week. Observation:

  1. Very humbling. This is my first time doing masters swim. Enough said.
  2. Good workouts, nothing too complicated which is nice, but every set has a specific purpose.
  3. Already got a few really good technical corrections from Darian
  4. Speaking of Darian - good, approachable coach. Remembers everyone’s names which is always nice.
  5. Good group, not overly friendly and also not too intense which in my view is just perfect.

I’d recommend it.

I had swam with them a bit this year before I discovered I’m not good at training with groups (more of a lone wolf). It also didn’t hurt that I have a 25M pool in my building so I could swim around my own schedule rather than theirs.

With all that in mind, I would thoroughly recommend them. I found both the coaches very approachable and humble. The sets (emailed weekly which I performed) were tough but not impossible and easily scalable to your current ability. One other great perk I found was there are many outside of the pool Team activities. This goes a long way to really make it a full TEAM experience and bonding with lane mates.

I have swam with the group for the past three years at Riverdale, Harbor, and Trinity and highly recommend Team Atomica.

Great coaching, variety in workouts, and flexibility in schedule options. The sessions are mostly focused on triathlon related swim training. I’d say it is generally a pretty focused group, but still friendly.
