Giro thread worked…
What kind of bizarro world is this where Contador gets lost, and Evans stays with the group and comes in 2nd?!?

how about fabian going too early and not having enough in the tank to take the stage?
A perfect one.
On an unrelated note:
I don’t know if I should laugh or actually get one.
Yeah that was pretty crazy. I thought he was going to run away with it and then all of the sudden it looked like he was dragging a load of bricks.
looks like everyone else in the pic is wondering the same thing
.
AC knows he is going to smoke the field so he spotted Evans some time to give him false hope.
Par for the course for Gilbert. Odd for cancellara. Vert lucky for Evans, Basso and Schleck.
It would be amazing retribution if AC lost BC of something out his control much like AS did last year…
So since Gilbert cannot wear all three jersey’s during tomorrow’s stage, I believe 2nd always wears the Green Jersey (Cadel) and 3rd wears the Polka Dot Jersey…in this case Thor! I can’t wait to see Thor Hushovd in the Polka Dot Jersey tomorrow, freakin’ hilarious!

I’m just wondering what took him so long…I was rockin’ that look in fast races at least 5 years ago
Maybe he saw that pic?

Wow! I looked at the results on cylingnews.com and it show only 31 riders came through with the front group yet 78 were credited with the same time.I must have missed something but I thought that second crash occurred in a group that had not even caught the lead group yet. I does look fishy that the roll back fell just down to Contador. Of course its hard to know exactly what happened just watching the VS coverage this morning, but the results sure look like the officials are working against AC this year.

It looks that you were not the only one doing that five years ago (2006). 60/90mm wheel set also.
Sergio
Yeah, what was up with that. Did he not realize he didn’t have it, or did he not realize that the finish was on a hill?
Either way, this was the most exciting first stage of the Tour that I can remember, and tomorrow we have a TTT! What a great start.

There was another crash in the lead group around 2k. AS and others were in that group and AC wasn’t.

It looked to me like he looked back and saw Gilbert was right there, and let off a little. Then when Gilbert attacked he couldn’t go with it so he didn’t waste the energy. I was screaming at my TV when he first made his move. I thought Cancellara was going to take it, but no dice. Maybe tomorrow…
Today confirmed that Gilbert is the best one day rider right now. Lombardia, LBL, Flèche, Amstel Gold, Belgian champ and now a yellow jersey to go with it. Love that guy

Agree, and he has always had an outspoken anti-doping stance. Him winning lately could mean many things (good and bad), but one of them is that there is less doping in the peloton this year. I hope.

For sure, he’s proven it all year. Everywhere but Paris-Roubaix he was either on or near the podium all spring. I think next season will be really interesting if Cancellara decides to drop some weight and target the Ardennes. He’s talked about it for a few seasons now.
Gilbert is absolutely amazing… his destruction of everyone he faces is just impressive. Bigger question is, how do Belgians go on living after the inevitable letdown, following Belgians winning everything under the sun (including Giro stages!) this year?

Seems like a continuation of his spring campaign!!
