Do we know whats going on with Racine?? if they are going to do the TBT to that race? I haven’t seen ANYTHING on their schedule yet.

I dunno, but just because it shows up, doesn’t mean they can’t cancel later, after we pay for it, apparently.

generally I like TBT but this bugs me as it increase my first world problems

Yeah that’s pretty messed up. any refund?

Buy a Ruster Sports bag (check their FB page for a 15% discount code) and never use TBT again or pay airline fees. Love mine.

Yeah, they’ll refund or credit or even offer a pack and ship. It just sucks when you think you have things wrapped up, ya know?

wait…you can bring that on the plane?

Technically there is an airline fee for a checked bag but not the excessive bike fees that we all love to complain about.

and theres enough padding inside to keep it from getting damaged? say some TSA assholes throw it around or *drop it? *

I’ve made 2 trips with mine so far and not a scratch. I’ll be taking it to CDA next year (just spectating but bringing my bike to train) and Italy. Plus, the bag holds a ton of other stuff. Within the frame I’m able to pack my cloths, gear, nutrition etc for a week long trip. Other than a carry-on backpack (used my IM transition bag) and a laptop bag, that’s all I brought with me.

just read all of the reviews on their website…Im pretty sold on it. Thanks for the heads up there.

No prob. I read through all of those reviews as well before ordering. I was a bit skeptical.

If you’re having trouble deciding which one to get, I can give you some more info as I’ve used both. I initially ordered the original Hen House and used it on my first trip. I felt that it protected my bike perfectly. However, I found it to be a bit unwieldy and cumbersome to deal with in the airport. When I got back I called them up and they had me send it back and then they sent me the Armored Hen House. I of course paid the difference. The only reason I got the Armored version is for the wheels and the way the bags latch together. It makes it much easier to drag around the airport. Worth the extra money just for that alone.

Chris, I’ll lend you my Ruster bags, no worries. In touch via FB.

Velotranz is setting up 2014 events. If I get the right numbers I can transport from San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, area. Truck only holds 50 bikes ride ready. Price will include bike and bag. Details for pick up in your city will be worked out and I will delivery to your hotel.
Last year I was working for a small bike company and did not do any transport or I could not get enough bikes to transport. I have been doing this since 1999 and have mostly worked under the radar. Ironman does not like me!
I am presently making changes to my web site.
If your interested contact me velotranz@gmail.com I have been in this industry since the 80’s as a wrench. I do service and have NO claims on any bike transport or any bike service that I have done.

what would be the required number?

what would be the required number?

I need at lest 25 bikes. Or you could buy the truck and then you fill it up. Send me an email and then we can work out details.

Hi Chris,

I’m sorry we had to cancel the service to NOLA 70.3 from the West Coast. Reservations were apparently opened on our site in error. We always do our best to make our service available to as many athletes as possible to any event but based on the numbers we have at this point, there just aren’t enough athletes traveling from CA to cover our costs to run a truck from out there. However, we are expecting updated numbers from the race director and if those numbers look feasible, there is a chance we will reopen the service.

Again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the post. Honestly, having opened the service, then closed it based on numbers, not sure I’d sign up again for TBT as I would not want to be left having to scramble for transport options shoud it be canceled again.

I like TBT’s services having used it twice this year, and am using again for Escape. Just reading your post, sounds like the reservation was not erroneously opened, but closed only once you figured out the numbers weren’t profitable. I get it, you have to make a profit. It just throws a monkey wrench into plans that were thought to be taken care of.

I also appreciate the pack and ship option being provided, that still remains to be seen whether it might work

If you took his reservation and his money, IMO, you should meet your commitments.
Now that he has booked his flights, he has no choice but to accept the airlines rates.
I understand you are in business to make money but when people make travel arrangements based on your advertised services I’m not sure it’s fair to change them on the fly.

Would you accept the airline cancel the flight because there not enough people on the flight ?

Should athletes assume you will cancel a race at any time if you don’t get enough people ?
If so, they better look at cost of bike bags and airline fees when booking their flight because they might have to use them.

Some ventures will make more money than others, some will lose money, however putting Chris in the lurch because it wasn’t profitable is just not going to build confidence in athletes using your service. I have heard only exceptionally positive things about tribike transport, so this isn’t a rant against your company… More just an observation that your company promised Chris something and then pulled back when it became financially less profitable. I do see an opportunity to make amends in this situation. Most unfortunate situations like this are actually OPPORTUNITIES in my thinking, for well run companies like TBT.
