Taylor Knibb at TT Nationals

Starting in about 15 minutes.

I think she needs to win it to get an Olympic spot.

aaaand she’s leading after Intermediate 1…

thanks for the link. she’s in the lead, by tenths of a second, at the checkpoint. 15sec ahead of amber neben. wow. that’ll be an interesting finish to watch.

Looks like she’s in the lead so far! Or maybe she won? I can’t tell if there are more competitors yet to race.

Dang. She won it. Negative splits.

Doing well! Dygert skipped it, I guess.

I guess she won, wow. Or is Chloe Dygert to start later?

No, Dygert not on the start list. Looks like Knibb is going to the Olympics in two sports.

it looks to me like the final result. maybe chloe was already on the team and didn’t need to do it. i don’t know. but i think that’s the result. she won! 1sec in front of 2nd place, 50sec in front of 3rd. she crushed it!

Dygert got the first spot for her WC title last year.

How long will it be before the complaining about how training for this did/will harm her build up for the Olympic Triathlon starts up?

YMMV

Wow!!!

It’s crazy that she was in Japan five days ago leading the swim for 1200m and running a 33:xx 10k. Her training seems to be going okay.

according to this:

  1. Any U.S. eligible athlete who finishes in the top three (3) of the 2023 UCI Elite Men’s or Women’s Individual Time Trial World Championships, provided that the race is entirely held and runs under UCI regulations, will be nominated to the 2024 Olympic Games Team.

so Chloe Dygert is on the team already for Paris.

then:

If positions remain after considering the preceding criterion, the 2024 US Pro Individual Time Trial National Championships winner, provided that the race is entirely held and runs under UCI regulations, will be nominated to the 2024 Olympic Games Team.

so that would be Taylor Knibb. The part that isn’t clear (to me) is this part:

Athletes nominated to the 2024 Olympic Games in Individual Time Trial will also be named to the Road Race Team.

so Taylor needs to also ride the road race?

Faulkner won a Vuelta stage last week and has had a great year so far and Taylor took her down. Crazy.

I remember Dan Lorang saying that she reached out to LCB about the possibility of coaching her when she dabbled in ITU racing with a long shot goal of making it to the Olympics.

His brain might be on fire out of excitement riggt now that he’s coaching Knibb. Racing the individual, MTR, and now the TT in Paris. Doing the T100 races and probably threepeating in the 70.3 WC. Maybe another shot at Kona next year. Can’t wait to see what they can do.

so Taylor needs to also ride the road race?

If she were selected, I believe so. It is also dependent on the # of rider slots the US gets, which I believe is tied to UCI points. It is not at all as straight forward as “win and in” at nats.

According to Wikipedia, the US only gets two spots in the Road Race-

.

Have to feel that’s an uphill battle then.

Edit to add:
Scratch what I wrote above.

Reading the USAC team selection document, it seems like they fill the TT positions first, fill the initial road race slots with the TT athletes and then if there are extra slots for the road race, fill those.
