Don’t have an m-dot, but plenty of other tats. Can’t remember any of my tat-artist telling me to stay out of the water… Think I would have stayed out for at least 24 hours, but that’s with any wound… Either way, a little water isn’t going to remove a tat or make it fade… Just make sure you keep it covered with vaseline for the first 2 day’s and try to keep it from really scabbing up.
I have a couple of tatoos including the M-dot, and they all told me to stay out of the water for at least 14 days. You don’t want it to fade and or bleed out.
2-3 weeks or so is the general rule. This applies to swimming, surfing, etc. Better to be safe than sorry in my opinion…why waste all that good money and work on something that’s going to fade? Just be sure to take care of it, and it’ll last. A+D ointment is what’s worked best for me. And be sure to keep it sunscreened for a while too, especially if you have color. You can do a quick search for tattoo care, or talk with the artist for more specifics.
Congrates on the your decision. Did mine last fall after finishing my 3rd IM. Retired from the Navy and had always toyed with the idea. Made up my own design around the Mdot and had it put on my right calf. Didn’t hurt like I expected. I was told to keep out of the pool for two weeks. Wash it gently twice a day and keep it moist with a high quality scent free hand lotion. I could have run or biked the day after with no problems I think. I even forget about now, but I get some interesting questions about it. Don’t know if I will get another one, but am always looking for different ideas, just in case.
