ESPN will air a piece on the stalking of Sheila Taormina. First showing will be on Sports Center after the Patriots-Cowboys game on Sunday (11/16) evening. The show generally begins about 11:30 p.m EST. The same show then runs in a continuous loop from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. the following day (Monday, 11/17). No information is available as to precisely when the five-to-six-minute segment will appear in the 90-minute show.
Unfortunate circumstances for getting some publicity.
BTW, what was the story on her bike not making it to a race recently?
After competing in (and winning) the Madeira World Cup, Sheila flew from the Atlantic island to Lisbon on Air Portugal, then switched to KLM/Northwest for flights to Amsterdam and on to Athens. Several members of the Spanish elite triathlon team were also on the first leg of the flight, but they then flew from Lisbon to Madrid.
Our guess is that the baggage handlers in Lisbon didn’t actually look at the routing tag on Sheila’s bike case, but just loaded it on the flight to Madrid along with the bike cases of the Spanish team. The Spanish coach saw her case in baggage claim in Madrid, but despite numerous phone calls, Sheila could not inspire Air Portugal officials to take immediate action. They said “we have e-mailed Madrid . . . and that’s all we can do”.
Finally, after she gave up and returned to the States on Friday, she got a call from Air Portugal. The bike was delivered to her in the States the next day.
Thank for the notification. I missed this when it originally came out so I’ve had to do some homework to catch up. Saddens me that this had to happen to such a nice person. She has been an inspiriation to my daughters both of whom are diminutive swimmers. Hopefully this is all behind her now
