I am 6’6" and 180#. I have a Zoot Synergy L and it is to short arms and legs. I feel like it is really restricting my arms. I have a 7mm steamer that is more comfy. The fit in the middle is great. I do not see my size on any fit chart. Anybody else tall and skinny find a good fit?
I recently just switched to a MT Orca wetsuit and I am about 6’4" and 165-70ish.
It takes awhile to put on, but fits like a glove and isn’t restrictive at all, but you are a bit taller and slightly heavier. Also, the legs only come down to about mid calf, but I’ve found that to be the case with all wetsuits I’ve owned, which were also Orca’s, so it could be a brand thing too.
I’ve been recommended to try two piece suits before, but they never appealed to me.
6’ 4" and race between 165 and 170. I’m mostly arms and legs so not long in the body. A MT Xterra Vector Pro fits me well. Yes the arms and legs are short, but I’m not a slave to fashion.
I struggled to find a suit that fits me properly. I am in an Aqua Sphere Phantom ML. I haven’t had another suit fit me this well.
Do you have a long torso? Longer legs? Evenly proportioned? These are things to keep in mind. The torso length will be the biggest deal as you can’t avoid the issues there if the torso of the suit is too short. The Legs don’t have to come all the way down to cover your ankles (actually better if it doesn’t).
Do you have a place that you can try some suits on? I’d say that at your weight, and how it is likely distributed, you aren’t going to find many brands that have size large that will fit you properly. I think that the ML/ MT fit is going to be your better fit depending on your torso length.
If you are able to try some suits on, I’d recommend it. I’ve tried a lot of suits on, and even through my bias (as I work for Aqua Sphere), I found the Phantom to be the best fitting suit. It fits very tight, just the way that I like it to fit.
Actually, not at all, I wouldn’t want it any snugger.
I was wearing an Orca two sizes bigger, which at first felt small, but after a couple of years of triathlon training and losing some muscle from university sport days, it definitely became too big. I picked up the MT in Auckland at World’s when I was likely 165 lbs at most, and like I said, it fits like a glove, top to bottom.
I likely have proportionately more mass in my shoulders relative to my legs, so that could be why it has never felt loose, but I’ve never worn a Helix to compare.
I may have the opposite problem with it feeling too small in the spring
I’m shorter (6"1), but also much lighter - 140lbs. I wear the Sailfish Attack in Small-Tall and it fits me great, so I guess a Medium-Tall should be your size.
I wish other manufacturers would embrace wetsuit sizing with height entering the equation. It’d make finding a cycling jacket for example much, much easier.
Almost the same measurements as you, I’m using a Blue Seventy Reaction medium/tall (MT). Have been on BS for several years and always the same size no matter of the model.
Some of the wetsuit companies do make custom suits for their top sponsored athletes.
I can tell you that it’s challenging coming up with fit that works for elite level and pro triathletes who for the most part are rail thin, whereas most of your other potential customers are not built like that. If you want to get a sense for this just go to the swim start of any big triathlon, where wetsuits are allowed, and you’ll soon see that these days triathletes come in all shapes and sizes!
It’s counter to this thread, but it was one of the reasons that Nineteen (my former employer) was founded, and for their success. I never liked to say, “We were the wetsuit company for bigger athletes”, but we did cut and fit the suits, based on the fact that the average triathlete, these days, is not built like Craig Alexander or Simon Whitfield. Many times at demos and shop fittings, I would find people who would try on a Nineteen for the first time, and say, “This is the first time that I can actually get one of these things on and it feel right”!
I’m built just like you. Two piece desoto is the way to go. Each piece can be a different size. It’s awesome!
Agree with this completely. I am 6’5" and 190ish and after talking with them and sending them a picture so they could see my build type (I carry more mass in arms/shoulders/chest than legs), they recommended size 6 both top and bottom. This worked out almost perfectly, top is pretty snug, but I have total shoulder freedom (if put on correctly…this is important). Bottom are snug throughout until past my calves, they they are loose…expected this, I have the ankles of a skinny 5 foot girl. The great thing is, if you are thinner up top, or have Hercules legs, you can mix and match sizes.
Also getting out of the two piece is such a breeze and the loose ankles actually help in pulling my big feet out.
