Talk to me about DT Hugi hubs

So I bought a used road bike that is nicely decked out (Specialized Allez w/ all Ultegra components) but I would like to change the wheels. Presently they have no name wheels on them. The rear wheel has a Hugi hub. I’m looking to go with some bomb-proof wheels (ie, Neuvation or shimanos) and was wondeing about using the Hugi hub. would I have to have the wheel rebuilt with the hub? Is it even worth it?

Thanks,
Andrew

Google Hugi hubs. They make some of the finest hubs available. Right up there with White. As long as they are still in good shape I don’t think you can go wrong with those hubs.

Thanks for the reply. If I decide to change the wheels do I have to have a new one built up around the Hugi hub?

Hugi is/was the forerunner of the DT Swiss hubs & now rims/wheelsets… Excellent quality in general; lots of folks used them in particular for MTB and tandem applications for durability. Depending on your year/model, some were known for having an insanely loud ratchet in the cassette body, which may or may not bug you when freewheeling.
