and we have a between the handlebar bottle mount! The idea came from the pictures of the Garmin 705 mount that was posted earlier. I used 0.064 aluminium sheet cut into 2.5cm wide strips, bent to shape and drilled for the water bottle cage bolts. I used some pieces of inner tubes to make some rubber pads held in place with contact cement. It holds in place very securely. I run the bottle under the bars as mine are too short to place it on top. If I end up happy with the result the next step will be some black paint to match everything nicely and trim the bolts down flush with the lock nuts. (No the frame is not clamped in the stand, just resting on the bottom jaw)
View with bottle in place.
Next step will be to make a mount for the powertap computer so I can slide the bottle back towards the headtube a bit.
This is going to come off a little harsh, but ST is a tough love kind of place. I dig that you’re thinking.
Bottle under the bars is only a good thing if they are highly angled up such as Tom A’s position. What you have is worse than a Jetstream or Profile setup.
Vision bars down to 250mm will handle a standard sized bottle just fine unless you have the elbow rests pushed to the inside without trimming off the excess. You have room, you just need to adjust a few other things. (like mounting the computer on the stem)
Hmmm, I understand what you are saying. I dont have enough clearance under the bars for an aerodrink system, the bars are too close to the front tire. I thought about running the bottle between the arm rest pads, but because of the Ritchey adjustable stem I cant mount the computer on the stem easily, and even if I did its tough to see in that position. If anyone has a better idea for the setup I am all ears.
This is the problem I’m running in to also. I carry my bottle between the aerobars(tt’s only) and have an Edge 705 that won’t fit on the stem, so I need to fab something to work.
Thinking about it, If I mount the bottle between the bars I could make a mount for the computer to move it to above the bottle cage on the bars or perhaps out to the side.
Stay tuned for version 2…
Is there any reason, if you top mount the cage, that you can’t have the bottle exiting backwards rather than forwards? That way it doesn’t matter if the bottle goes right to the bend in your bars or not.
Instead of working around the computer with the bottle, work around the bottle with the computer. Surely you can figure out a way to mount the computer directly behind the bottle holder, even with the sloping stem. You have aluminum, so there is no reason you can’t put the mount virtually anywhere you want it.

Is there any reason you can’t mount the PT head unit on one of the extensions (as shown below) and still have room for the bottle?
Why not mount the computer right to the top of one of those alum brackets you made?
I have my computer mounted to a “pringle”. Its a curved, thin carbon peice, near the same as your metal one. Zip tied on each end to the bottom of the aerobars. The computer is epoxied to the top of the carbon pringle. The pringle is lite, thin, out of the way and puts the computer right between the aerobars vertically and horizonally anywhere along the bars I want.
The Pringle was purchased here on ST. can’t remember from who. It was made custom to fit the distance between the aerobars. We gave him the measurement and he made the pringle to fit.
Oh…and another thing that may help with moving the bottle “up top” is to use a bottle cage that enters/exits from the side…that way you could mount the computer directly in front of or behind the bottle and not have to worry about clearance to get it out. Just a thought…
My bars and pads are very close together Tom, so it wouldnt work on the extensions. Plus it would probably be hidden by my forearm. I would have to mount the computer out to the side of the aerobar which I am loath to do.

Narrower than mine? Take a look at that pic again…the computer is located along the extension right about where my forearm narrows down to my wrist (it sort of “nestles” right in there) and the face is angled towards the centerline of the bike. This keeps the view of it from being blocked by my forearm and makes it easier for me to operate the buttons with my right hand when need be.
If I angle it in, I believe it will probably run up against the bottle. For reference whith my hands on the ends of the extensions my thumbs are actually touching together. I certainly do appreciate the suggestions and will certainly take a look at it when I get home to see if it will work.
My extensions are also very narrow. But, I was able to make a very simple, light mount for my computer out of a short section of PVC and a couple of zip ties…
Steve, where did you put the computer when you mounted the bottle? Would love to see some pictures, given I have plenty of alumium and 1/2 a 6 pack to finish another mount!
I did not move the computer. It’s still right behind (in the draft of) my hands. I could slide it back a bit, but it’s actually in a really nice spot to be easily seen where it is.
If I can remember to take pics tonight, I’ll post them tomorrow.
To give you a quick rundown, though… I mounted a standard (Tacx Tao) bottle cage to my stem (ie. between the elbow pads), which results in the bottle facing forward right between my forearms. It’s pretty much invisible from the front/side.
A couple of things that I had going for me that you may not are…
I use a 120mm, -10* stem, so it’s fairly long and angled just slightly up from horizontal.
My extensions are long. (I’m 6’2 with long limbs, and have my arm pads right under my elbows.)
Having said that, there is plenty of room to get even a 750ml (tall) bottle in/out without having to worry about hitting the computer.
