Taiwan 70.3 Bike Rental?

Hey guys,

Anyone know if there is a place in Kenting Taiwan where I can rent a decent quality road or tri bike to participate in the Taiwan 70.3. I am in Taipei the week before the event, and it occurred to me that if I could get a bike rental, I could do this event and just come home 3 days later. I’ll just travel with bike shoes, clip on aero bars, helmet, pedals, saddle. Any advice would be appreciated. I don’t really want to get into the scenario of trying to rent something in Taipei, transporting it down as I could just leave from Kaohsiung aiport and get home via Hong Kong or Tokyo Narita rather than going back through Taipei (just better connection options coming home via Hong Kong).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been wanting to do a race in Asia for several years, and as fate would have it, this one could work out if I can find a bike…I’m not really brave enough to do it on my folding bike with 32mm tires!

Dev

Dev,

Did you check the event website? All 3 previous years they were offering “rent bike for the race” service, from the Giant shop located right on site, in the official hotel building. All bikes were Giants though, but they had full spec of models, from road to tri. The pricelist and booking form used to be somewhere on the race website as well. If no luck, pm me, maybe I can figure something out…

Dev are you staying at the Yoho? There is a Giant shop that has a few rental bikes. Otherwise I could borrow you a medium Ceepo Venom as I can not make it to the race. However the bike is in Taipei.

Zuma…that is really nice for you to make that offer…I could probably manage a medium if I buried the seat tube! But my problem is that the “returning to taipei part”.

Koreo, this is great info. I did not see this on the event website, but I admit I barely looked at the website. I’ll go see what is available. if I can rent something right there in Kenting at the official hotel, that would be totally awesome!

Zuma…as it turns out, I cannot stay around till the weeknd of the 70.3. I did decide to pack my bike anyway to do some riding locally on Yangmingshan (sp?) mountain this weekend (Sunday Oct 27th). If you or any local guys are around, would love to meet up and ride. I’m staying downtown Taipei near the Taipei 101.

Wanting to head back up here:

Dev, sorry for the late reply. Just came back yesterday evening from a trip to China. No ST access in mainland.
If you come back to town let me know. Would love to go for a ride. Also a good chance is the regular group ride that leaves Taipei American School (close to Tienmu square) at 6:00 am on Saturdays and Sundays. Mostly roadies but very welcoming. Saturday is a sporty ride whereas Sundays are more casual speeds. They combine usually Yangminshan and north cost.
Hope you have a great ride today, weather looks just perfect to hit the road.
