Tadej Pogacar

I wanted to give Tadej a shout out as he’s about to ride through Paris to claim his fourth TDF. He’s a superstar.

I’ve enjoyed watching the Tour, it’s always fun seeing the ride around France.

At this rate, he will be labeled as the greatest ever if he stays healthy for a couple more years. He probably only needs 3 or 4 more years to pass Cavendesh for most stage wins.

I really enjoy watching that guy ride. It is impressive as all hell!

I forgot to mention he also gets the polka dot jersey.

He still has a long ways to go to catch Merckx to be the greatest ever, but it’s not unrealistic that he could do it. I think in objective rankings he’s not even halfway there yet.

Obviously how points are assigned to races across time affects the rankings, but it seems like Pogacar is right around cracking the top 10 in the rankings that exist.

The old cycling4all website which as far as I know was the first to do one of these sorts of rankings had Merckx way out in front, Hinault a clear second by a ways and then a gaggle of greats including Armstrong, Kelly, etc. filling out the rest of the top 10 all relatively close in their scores.

Thanks for the spoiler. Dumb of me to think that this might be politically related instead of TDF, but still….

How could this be a spoiler? The GC wasn’t in doubt today, or tomorrow.

You’re in the Coffee House, not the Politics forum. The race has more or less been decided for a while now barring illness or crashes. Were you going to watch it after it was over?

Maybe he’s trying to squeeze it all into a 7 day trial of Peacock.

The GC hasn’t been in doubt for about a week.

ETA: The knock wood, that’s something stupid doesn’t happen today with the multiple climbs up Mont Montmartre and those narrow roads.

Since “Cannibal” is already in use, I wondered what the Slovenian equivalent might be

The word “cannibal” translates to ljudožerec (masculine) or ljudožerka (feminine) in Slovenian. Another option is kanibal, which is also used.

Therefore, the Slovenian translation for “the cannibal” could be:

** “ljudožerec”: (if referring to a male)*
** “ljudožerka”: (if referring to a female)*
** “kanibal”: (can be used for both male and female)*

And, a hat tip to Pogi for going for the win today, despite all those recent tough days in the mountains. His willingness and ability to go for a stage win in all sorts of terrain are extraordinary. There are remarkably few situations where he won’t challenge the specialists. Merckx was incredibly versatile, but I understand that there was less specialization in those days.

His Pogi nickname just doesn’t sounds as cool as cannibal. It just sound cutesy  What should he have?

I think he can correctly be called the greatest ever already. The standard is so much higher these days, and I don’t mean the scientific ceiling which would obviously be an unfair lens, but the professionalism and depth of the peloton. The fact he could ride Mercx off his wheel isn’t relevant to the discussion. The fact he can ride today’s peloton off his wheel is distinct from and more impressive than Mercx’s dominance in his era.

As for the next few years, if the last few days of this Tour are a tell he’ll have a harder job staying motivated than he will staying healthy. It’ll be interesting to see if he goes to the Vuelta.

If he retired tomorrow, Pogi would not be the GOAT. He likely has GOAT-level talent and, if his career continues at present levels for quite a few more years, he would have GOAT-level palmares.

36 TDF Stages wins (or more) is not unlikely; that’s TB12-level exceptionalism

Yes, it is incredible to think that, in the current era, a GC rider could win more stages in a career than a sprinter (Cav). Froome only won 7 TDF stages.

Danno… “Pogacar” comes from the word “pogaca” which is round bread bun, so his family name means the one who makes round bread buns. English equivalent would be Baker, I think. So Pogacarnivor would be the one who devours round bread buns with meat.
Tadejsaurus is better.

He has ran 6 Tour de France’s, he has 20 wins! 36 isn’t out of the question.
