Tacx Neo smart trainer, thoughts?

Just saw this article and as I was already looking at a kickr it piqued my interest. Not sure it is worth the extra money. The act it doesn’t need to be plugged in is nice. I’ve never owned a tacx product, but my understanding is that they have had quality issues in the past. Is that true? Interested to hear others thought and experiences.

I’m not sure it’s worth $400 more over a Kickr
.

Looks nifty and I like the “truly wireless” nature of it… looks somewhat portable too… but for that much $$$ they better include some slick software.

That is kinda my though. worth a little more, but not that much

Saw that. Seems very flashy like they are trying to hide something.

Maybe it’s quieter than a Kickr. I still wouldn’t pay $1500 for a trainer

It is supposed to be as quiet as a fridge supposedly. I agree a kickr is about the limit of what I would pay for a trainer

No idea why the first 30 seconds were a landscape shot of cows but the trainer does look nifty… just not sure if it’s $$$ nifty.

hahahah I wondered the same thing
.

Pretty steep price, but I’m pretty excited about the ridiculously low noise level (5 db). Really looking forward to a good and thorough review.

The drivetrain will make more noise than that.

yea, ill wait for dcrainmaker… being able to ride in my bedroom next to my sleeping wife

I own a Bushido (non smart version, from 2009), the actual physical trainer quality is fine, it’s the additional software which has been terrible, full of bugs and unreliable, that was one of the main reasons I went with tacx in the first place, check the tacx forums and you will see loads of people pulling their hair out about the trainer software, it would crash or lose connection to the trainer mid ride.

I replaced it with a Wahoo kickr last year and never looked back. I have to say that around that time the Tacx software, v4.12 had improved greatly and was stable for me, but setting up the training for each ride was always a pain (it’s a type where you keep the back wheel on and tighten a cog to set the calibration)

After using the Kickr for the last year, bottom line is that the it is light years ahead of older tacx versions imo.

The neo does look very promising though, especially as it’s open protocol means it can be used with TrainerRoad etc.

I’m going to wait to see what ray says over at dcrainmaker before making my mind up.

Just a thought if the Neo has accurate power that it may cost less in the sense that the value of my Kickr is over $2k if you count my Quarq Elsa as an accurate power meter source to control the Kickr. IMO and my Kickr being off over 14 watts compared to my power meters and it drifts over the period of an hour I don’t consider it a good source.

If you have one of the rare lucky Kickrs then it is a good value.

I am still waiting for wireless control to add to my E-Motion rollers. That may be a good option as well.
