TacX Bushido Smart or TacX Vortex Smart

Hi!

I’m thinking a getting a new smart trainer (just have a dumb trainer today) and use primarily with Zwift. I have been looking at these two: TacX Bushido Smart and TacX Vortex Smart. The Bushido has more breaking power (up to 15% uphill), than then Vortex (5% uphill brake).

Anyone who uses the Vortex (especially with Zwift) and thinks the breaking power is to low (and have to gear up on the bike)?

I have found a really good price on the Vortex (just 310), but is it stupid no to pay the extra (around +160) and get the Bushido instead?

I’ve personally been stuck on the fence for a smart trainer. Leaning towards a Kickr SNAP if I can find a deal over the early fall, even though the Tacx models seem to be available from German shops for remarkable prices. The various tough reviews of Tacx models (even among many good reviews) make me worry about support issues.

I also dig the Kickr Bluetooth control capability (for, perhaps, phone only workouts) but it sounds like Tacx is opening up their BT control to 3rd parties as of now as well.

Since it sounds like the new Tacx Neo is out of the budget, might I suggest you also consider the just introduced Tacx Genius Smart. Other things to consider include the fact that the Genius Smart offers more braking power than the Bushido, and while all 3 are dual ANT+/BTLE, botht the Vortex and Genius Smart requires plugging in a power cord to the mains but when simulating descents, the Genius can motor the rear wheel. The Bushido is an inductive resistance unit so there is only power for ANT+ and BTLE connections while you are actively pedaling. Once you stop pedaling, the connection with a 3rd party apps are interrupted/disconnected after a minute or so of inactivity but depending on the reconnect logic of the app you are using to train, which may or may not seamlessly reconnect.

If he is questioning if he should spend 470€ instead of 310 I would guess 610€ would be too much for the genius smart…

Well, I went ahead and purchased the Bushido smart. Hopefully it will make my winter training more fun!
