Currently it doesnt matter if their data is 1-2 inches off. The data provided is directional and the same will be true with the app once it’s deployed. It will be used by the refs to guide their visual inspection of how athletes are competing and abiding by the drafting rules. the 1-2 inches that you are questioning only becomes an issue if they begin to apply strict electronic applied penalties (Highly doubt that in on the near to intermediate horizon at any level). The only potential current implication is to the drafting=cheating zealots who will look at 1 min of yo-yoing and attempt to label an athlete as a cheater.
