It’s a step in the right direction. I wonder if they’ll be using the RaceRanger as part of the policing for that?
He also said in his retirement announcement insta post that he was done racing at the highest level and would finish the year off doing some other races. So I assume he withdrew.
Rules don’t matter much if they aren’t enforced. Hopefully they call some penalties.
Perhaps they’ve set the penalties so low in order to make it more likely that the officials will actually hand some out?
That seems to be intention, but then again I thought that was the intention with Race Ranger so we will have to wait and see.
Race is on Saturday at 8:00 (men) and 10:30 (women) local time (means the races will overlap!).
Does anyone have a link to the races for replay about 6 hours later in the US?? I think I remember something on YouTube, is that where to go tomorrow morning??? Thanks
Yeah they’ll be on the T100 YT channel.
Where do I start… first ever drafting penalty!!
Impressive race from Laidlow. Hopefully he left some for Kona after this and London.
and a second with Julie Derron.

Why have the coverage and commentators ignored Derron until her pass halfway through the ride and then the blue card? She will take that minute back on all that group (with a 1:13) and no way will Haug and Gentle catch her.
This run loop is too short. Not good television if Knibb has already lapped those running 9th and below.
How long do you think the run lap should be? They’re doing each lap in 10 minutes (9 minutes for Derron!).
Derron started the run 5:41 behind Knibb, and has been gaining 40+ seconds each lap (7 laps). At that rate Derron will close to within a minute (!).
Gentle looking to run into #4 (behind Knibb Derron and Lee) with EPB in #5
If I’m not mistaken the other races in the series had 4 laps. In San Francisco, Knibb had similar gaps on the bike as here in Ibiza between 2nd to 10th place. A lap was around 15-16 minutes which is probably safe enough for those in 11th to 15th not to be lapped.
I am not a fan of Alistair but give him his due. He said he probably deserved it as he had his head down working hard and entered the draft zone.
Yes, I noted that. That was classy behavior. Performance-wise, witihout the 1-minute penalty he would’ve been charging for the podium (other things being kept equal, which is a big ask, but maybe not a huge one).
Love the new rule of 1 minute for drafting. Actually give out the penalty and it doesn’t ruin their race.
