I’ve been practicing in my De Soto T1 for my upcoming race, and I’ve been getting some serious neck-chafing. The product care info that came with the suit states (in bold) that you should not use petroleum jelly or PAM spray on the suit. But what about a little body glide around the neck? I can get into the suit just fine, it’s just for the chafing issue.
Body glide works great. I have that suit and it is by far the least offensive neck eater I have ever tried. I had an Orca Predator and my neck looked like the worse mass of hickeys imaginable.
I get a bad neck rub, too. I’m not blaming my T1 suit, but I’m sure it’s better than most. For an IM, I’m thinking of better neck protection than bodyglide. That stuff wears off too quickly. My initial idea is to wear a dickey. Gawd, I can’t believe I said that. Reminds me of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Well, I’d rather take the stares wearing that than the 360 degree hickey a 2.4 mile swim will give me.
I remember reading of people going to the drug store and buying baby cream for diaper rash. Worked great, was easy on the skin and cheap to buy. Never tried it myself.
try some Sports Sheild skin lube by www.2toms.com. Doesn’t work as well on your crotch (don’t think I ever thought I’d write that) as well as body glide, but is awesome for the neck of wetsuits. I just started using it and am loving it.
