The differences I see in these two bars are the price, weight, and the curved extensions of the C2 vs. straight on the streamliner.
Questions:
Are the C2’s extensions curved to accomodate a drink bottle? (i.e. is this the sole purpose for the curves)
It appears the C2’s position your hands further apart from each other due to the curves in the ext’s, wouldn’t this be less aero than the Streamliner? And wouldn’t you be poking a larger hole, i.e. more frontal area?
Are the pad heights of the two bars identical?
My aero street smarts (i.e. nothing scientific here) lead me to believe the streamliner is more aero, if this is the case, I could overlook the 70 gram difference.
Gerard - if you read this, you spec the streamliner on the P3, is this a cost decision, or do you believe it to be the better bar?
Any other insight appreciated.
I’m currently using a streamliner (size L), and need a medium, so I’m trying to decide between the two.
Tried both. I definately prefer the C2’s. My wife prefers the Streamliners, so it’s a matter of personal choice.
Can’t see there being any aero or functional difference between the two. Both are designed to accomodate the Syntace Jetstream aero bottle.
The most important thing is to get the correct size that fits. They aren’t adjustable and only come in s-m-l, so correct sizing is important. If by chance you’re using these on a road bike it might be adviseable to go to the small size so you won’t be overly stretched out.
Not an expert here, but have had C2s ever since they 1st came out. C2s are a tad bit lighter. They both hold the water bottle the same. I like C2 hand position better b/c the wrists turn slightly in as opposed to slightly out on the Streamliner - of course this is certainly personal choice. I think the aero dynamics would be very close if not equal. Where I really like the C2s is I can “choke up” on the bars to climb in a semi aero position by bracing/holding right at the curve. Make sense? Good Luck,
I’ve used both but am using the streamliner currently. The main differences are that the streamliner positions your hands outward (bottom of hand to top) while the C2 allows your hands to point inward. The C2 curves to enable your hands to be tilted inwards. Supposedly the C2 offers a more natural position, but I find both to be equally comfortable. You can move the pads to acheive the same width on either bar so the width is not an issue. Also if you put a water bottle between both bars there shouldn’t be any difference between the two (my untrained opinion of aerodynamics).
It boils down to a question of weight, price, and which hand position you’re more comfortable with…
One thing I’ve noticed with the C2’s is that they are sized quite large. ie - I’m quite long-limbed but only need the mediums. I’d suggest you try a pair out fitted on someone else’s bike if you’re going the online shopping/mailorder route.
