Swollen Ankle

For the past 4 or 5 days, my right ankle is puffy and swollen - an area about 4 cm in diameter. There is no pain associated with it. I had a fairly intense massage late last week and I’m wondering if it is just trapped fluid in that area? I ran about 6 km yesterday at an easy pace and still no pain or increase (or decrease) in the swelling. I have iced it a few times as well, but the swelling stays the same.

Thoughts anyone?

Where is it swollen (this 4cm zone you mentioned)? Medial? Lateral? anterior?

I’d get it checked out by a doctor in the swelling does not start to reduce soon. Even if it’s not causing pain, might as well er on the side of precaution.

Lateral right next to the ankle bone. Yes, I think I’ll call my doctor next week and see what’s going on.

Google Ganglionic cyst. Or, for fun, try this: get a flashlight - go in a dark room, put the flashlight on the skin over the swollen area. If it transilluminates a perfect cyst … if so, likely coming off the peroneal tendon(s)
