Okay so after being a type 1 diabetic for 31 years I just took the plunge and ordered a freestyle libre flash to help me identify certain trends when I don’t regularly test - like at night and during long training etc. I think all the hype about supersapiens has helped me make this decision.
Anyway, this is the only freestyle device you can get in NZ. And it says you can’t go swimming for more than 30 minutes and in more than 1 metre of water. So swim training will affect it - not that we can swim in pools right now as we are in lockdown.
Anyway, what have other diabetics done to swim with this sort of device? Waterproof/resistant plasters? Some other kinda adhesive patch?
I’m a pharmacist and regularly dispense them to patients. A lot of people buy tegaderm films to put over to top to hold them in a bit better. The regular libre sensors don’t have the big film holding them on like you see on the supersapiens ones so the film is a make shift version of that and “should†help with keep things working better in the water.
Hi,
I’ve been wearing the freestyle libre sensors for about 18 months and have not had any problems with swim sessions of over an hour, both in the pool and open water. To be honest, the biggest problem has been catching it on lane lines. The adhesive around the edge is enough to keep it in place, no issues with this. After two weeks I can see that it is a bit grimy around the edges, but it is this way regardless of how much swimming I do.
U won’t have issues for long swim sessions with it. Not sure why they say 30 mins in a meter. Have done many swims well past that with them. I cut a strip of h2o rock tape to cover. You can visit rockadex. Com with does all things t1 like this as well.
Yeah I ended up swimming with a specific patch you can buy. Only had 1 libre come loose during a swim. Am now using a libre 2 and have to stay its a game changer with alarms for lows and highs and also no need to scan all the time.
