Swimming on an open blister

In last Sunday’s race, I created the Mother-of-all-Blisters on the bottom of my left foot to the extent that once the race had finished I had removed a 1/2" x 2" section of skin right under my arch and it was even bleeding. The pain was exquisite.

I know why it happened and it will not happen again. I was a dumbass.

I have put some second skin on it and the healing has begun, but could/should I swim in a pool before it is better? Will I set myself back by getting in the water? Do I risk infection? Should I just lay off for a few more days?

I have a race next weekend and I want to make sure that I’m as healthy as possible.

Thanks,

Tom

If you keep applying the second skin as necessary there shouldn’t be any issues with infection as it will be sealed. Top that off with the fact that chlorine is designed as a disinfectant and everything should be cool. Unless the wound goes south and starts showing redness or puss or something strange, the fact that you have kept it clean and sealed should allow it to heal nicely.

Enjoy your race!
